I'm finishing a turbo charged 67 camaro that I started and sidelined about 10+ years ago.
I trying to determine how well all the turbo and fuel induction parts will work together that I had purchased years ago. I'd rather not rebuy a whole new turbo kit and fuel induction system, but I will if this setup is likely to perform poorly.
Here is what I have. Some info is a little sketchy as I'm going from memory (still looking for some paperwork):
Motor built by Ed Hale Automotive in San Diego, CA :)
327 SBC bored ~.030 over with forged turbo pistons ~8.5ish:1
Original 327 forged steel crank
2 bolt studded mains
Eagle forged rods that can handle 1000hp
Bottom end blueprinted/balanced
Original cast iron heads with hardened valve inserts, stainless valves (oversize if I recall), heavy duty pushrods, 1.6:1 roller rockers, heavy duty valve springs
Isky Turbo profile 201-TA cam and hydraulic lifters
Dual roller timing chain
High volume oil pump
7 quart Moroso oil pan w/ sump and windage tray
Weiand aluminum manifold port matched to headsI'm planning on selling my fully rebuilt Muncie M20 and installing a TKO-600.
Here's the parts I'm worried about working well as a system.
Rajay single turbo 3AA1EE90B1 in pristine condition, barely used.
Cast iron manifolds. One w/ turbo mount flange. Port matched to heads.
Cross over pipe that routes behind the oil pan.
Turbo City #970-101 modified TBI fuel injection kit w/:
2" TBI unit with 68 lb injectors
computer (Delco electronics) Vin 20K w/ custom chip and custom programmed for my motor (SVC # 01227747)
wiring harness w/ lots of sensors
AC Delco early 90's electronic distributor recommended for the TBI system.
Draw through adapter that sits under the throttle body.
Deltagate Wastegate #10101-7FF125 7-9 psi
Mallory Fuel Pressure Regulator # 4309 3-12psiSome of the parts I don't have yet:
Boost control regulator
Fuel pump(s)
Bypass valve
Wideband O2
Gauges
IntercoolerI'd like to make about 550hp at the crank with tolerable turbo lag.
Any comments on how well the turbo and fuel system is likely to work ?
The TBI system is advertised as limited to about 400hp. Does that sound accurate and is that likely a airflow / CFM limitation in the TBI that is not upgradeable ?
Should I convert to a plenum blow through ? I assume this would be inexpensive and would cut down on turbo lag and fuel atomization issues.
Should I bite the bullet and go with a STS turbo kit or other moderately priced turbo kit ?
I have a Camaro 12-bolt rear with 3:42 gears. If I recall the differential is a GM one. The housing was straightened and the welds were beefed up.
