Digi-Tails wiring. I'm confused.

1968 Camaro with RS lights question.

It looks like I take the yellow wire that comes from the dash and is for the left turn signal and it gets wired to both tail lights? That looks to be true for the dark green wire that is the right turn signal.

So, why are they wired to each other? I assume this is required for the emergency flashers to work? This way each light knows what the other one is doing?

I am afraid to put power to it until I make sure I understood the instructions correctly.

I had the same question, but the magic is in the circuit boards. I saw that you had to wire the lights together and was pretty confused.... then we hooked it up, and it worked! I still don't understand how, but it's all good.

In a way is does make sense. So, I hooked them up and boy have I got problems. I spent the last few hours chasing wiring gremlins only to come to the conclusion I have a bad board or maybe even both.

Here are some of the problems I have

I have one vertical row of LED's that are dead on the passenger side (right).

The left one is flashing when I turn on the right turn signal and the right one goes blank.

When I turn on the running lights I get running lights on the left and bright brake lights on the right.

When I turn on the headlights the one on the right goes blank.

There are other problems as well so, I think It's time to call someone. I bought them from AAW like a week before they turned them over to Spaghetti Eng and, I've have them for a long time. I just took them out of the bag today but I'm sure they are way past the warranty stage.

So, I think I'm screwed. I think may just need to order a new set.

Not yet and I think since I have regular incandescent bulbs up front that it would be o.k. for now. They just flash a little faster then before. I will hunt one down on Sunday but, I can't imagine that's my problem.

Do you have an electronic flasher installed?

Wow, those are issues. We didn't enounter anything like that. I read and re-read the instructions 100 times to make sure it was all good, then built the harness on the bench, and it worked good. We had the occasional gremlin with a brake switch and the main flat harness above the column being loose, but that's it. I'd triple-check everything, especially the grounds. This stuff makes you want to cry.

I spent at least 2 hours verifying everything and did it again this morning.

I also went and bought two electronic flashers at Pep Boys. They are a variable load and electronic. I thought they would work well but don't. My stock flasher worked better. I will order a pair of no load units tonight.

Holy Crap, that is some issues no loads won't fix. The dead row of LED's can't be cured, that board will need replaced. As far as the other issues, well, not sure what to make of them. Sent you a PM.

To verify that it is in fact the board I would swap sides and see if the problem moves with the board or stays on the passenger side. I know you can't leave them that way but you will have a place to start looking.

Umm.... Larry, have you done any prior wiring on that car? Or is that the stock, untouched harness? What about under the dash? Anything done there? And what's the condition of the rear harness?

I did swap the boards and the problems followed the boards.

It's a new Painless harness I have had it installed for about 5 years. All the lights and turn signals worked as they should before Saturday.

All is well now. It looks like I have an older revision board and a few bad ones slipped out almost 2 years ago when I bought mine. They are sending me new units today. That's customer service.

I just slayed my last gremlin yesterday with my digitail install. Brian and Mike were very helpful with talking out my problem with me.

Nutshell: My LED install in back went great - no problems. It appeared I lost front blinkers though - parking lights work, but no flashing lights on or off. It ended up being 2 bad bulbs. Both had a bad flasher filament. I didn't expect both bulbs to be bad (in the same way) and therefore thought something was wrong in the wiring.

Glad to hear it's all going to work out. I love these lights!
