I have this 65 Corvair that I'm getting ready to restore. I'm going to be stripping it down to bare metal and prob sending it off to get the body work done. My main question is on the rear of the car both corners are pushed in due to someone hitting the back of the car. One of the quarters is rusted out behind the weel where all old cars rust out. Do you think it would be easier to find a good back section and cut it out, cut mine out, and weld in the entire rear section of a donor car?

Wow, that car was hit pretty hard. If not for the rust I would guess the metal could be repaired, but if you have access to a donor car it would be better to replace it
Good luck, Corvairs are too cool!

No expert but I'd replace the panels. I'm sure there getting more scarce and spendy but I've found and used NOS rear quarters. Others times used donor cars.

The tail panel can be removed, it's welded there but it comes out....

What motor is in that? What motor are you planning? I'm just doing research/planning and thinking LSX type motors are really the future for making a killer PT car.

Right now it's a 455 Olds in with a Tornado drivetrain. The 455 is coming out (I think) and I'm prob giong to put in an LS1 or a turbo Ecotec motor. There is a guy on corvaircenter.com putting a C5 tans and rear with an LS1 in his 65 coupe. I've been talking alot with him about it. I want/need to retain my legroom as I'm 6'1" and hate being up agains the steering wheel.

the quarters need replaced, either with new ones or even origionals would be a smart choice, especially if you know there is rust hiding back there
