View Full Version : Trade my Camaro for a '67 Cuda Coupe?
I'm considering trading my Camaro for a very solid, rust-free '67 Cuda coupe (NOT the one in the pic below.) It has a slant-six, but it is in good condition with very little, if any, rust. The only bad thing is that it doesn't come with a title, the original owners lost it years ago.
Also, is this a one year only body style?
Thoughts? Should I do it?

No title no deal... They can easily go file for lost title if it was really theirs last...

Make sure they get process of the lost title done before touching the car. If it shows up stolen, you're not out any money.
Cool cars though.

"losing" a title is not that big of a deal in my book. a few phone calls, maybe an hour or three of someones time and wham-o. new title on it's way... that's a walk in the part compared to the potential of them having never had a real title with their name on it.
Personally, I would do it.....after the verification is complete or the title procurred.
....not sure about the body being one year. it does seem that the 68-69 were somehow different on the design of the rear glass/quarter panel area.

I'd swing them an extra $200 to get it takin care of.

That helps, I bought mine with a title that had the body number on it vs the vin #. The vin tag was obviously reattached to the new dash panel, and I was able to correct it.
Then the state of IL says the car is worth more than I stated, some 10 months after purchase and they wanted another $700 in taxes. I gave the previous owner some cash to send me another notorized bill of sale and sent them a letter stating I bought a shell with boxes of parts.

67-69 baracudas were available as a fastback, coupe, and convertible.
The picture you posted is a coupe, and is not a 1 year only body style.
This car is one of my favorites, and is definitely near the the top of my
"want to have" list. Small-ish in size and was available with a big block. Very cool!
As long as the car is not stolen or liened, you can get a new title with a bit of time and effort.
Unless you have a ton of time and money into your Camaro, I say go for the trade. The Plymouth is probably more valuable. JMHO

The car is located in NM, so the fact that it doesn't have a title doesn't bother me too much. NM is known for it's lax registration requirements, and I have a house there that I could use for residency requirements and skip all of the "out-of-state" mess.
A small part of me wants to keep the '78 (dare to be different, and all that) and I've only got about 8k or so in it - but at the end of the day, it's still a rubbernose. If I were to sell it now, I'd be lucky to get 4 or 5 thousand for it. I'm obviously not in the car hobby to make money (or I wouldn't be building a rubbernose) but taking a 50% loss is not acceptable to me - even if it's only 4 or 5k dollars. And even if I keep it, the appreciation potential for the Camaro is very minimal. Almost all late 2nd gens that will bring a decent $ amount now and in the future are low mileage Z-28's, and my '78 is neither one of those. I also realize that the '67-'69 Cudas aren't as desirable as the '70 - '74's, but compared to a rubbernose Camaro -they are potentially worth a whole lot more.
The owner of the cuda and I are still talking, so I'll keep everyone posted.
I've also thought about trying to find a decent '70-'73 Camaro shell since almost all of the parts on my car will fit it, but even they are beginning to get out of reach in price. Any one know where I can find a clean shell for less than $2k?

I'd prefer the Cuda over the 78 Camaro but I wouldn't trade straight up for a slant 6 car.
You being into pro touring that Cuda will cost you a wad to build it PT, nothing in the base 6 car will survive so it'd be a full build, but it'd be a sa-weet ride.
Keep us posted.
