Hello,
What is the difference between gasohol and ethanol? I see people use the two different terms, but I dont know which term is correct. Are they the same thing(180 proof)?

Thanks, David

gasahol was the old terminology for E10 or 10% ethanol gas. the idea wasto use it to lean out cars and make gas go farther.
Now the E10 is used as an oxegenate for emissions and to replace MTBE which has been found in ground water in someareas and they believe it can cause health problems in children.
Now the new Flex fuel is E85 witch is 85 % ethanol,,, but dont try to run it in your car as it requires some major retuning.
But E85, if prevalent in your areas is an alternative to race fuel as it has a R+M/2 octane rating of 105.
As for E100 its 200 proofor annyhydrous ethanol and very hard to maintain as ethanol likes to absorb moisture right out of the air .
figure the Ethanol in E85 is around 160-170 proof.
see in the distillation process to get from 190 proof to 200 proof(pure ethanol actually takes a lot of work/energy as you have to soak up the lower proof stuff in quick lime then distill it from the quick lime) and its as I said loves to absorb water straight from the air.

I will try and make my own ethanol. I have all the tools...all I need is time. Before I run ethanol in the truck, I will change the carb.

I'm interested to see how your swap goes, because I intend to do the same to my 71 Camaro. I have a book that has been a good reference thus far, and some plans on how to actually go about making things.
