I was just wondering what the gap between the arm and the steering box is. I am rebuilding my front end on my 67 and this pitman arm is a PITA. I ran the nut down as far as i could and i got my mic out and the gap is 0.437 inches. Is this too much? I read somewhere that the gap is usually 1/4 to 1/2 inch. They thing is driving me crazy. I want to finish this so I can move on. Oh yeah there are about three threads sticking out the bottom of the nut. I know this is ok for an airplane, but is this ok for the arm. The thing is on there so tight I dont think it will fall off. But i dont want to take that chance.

factory torque spec on the pitman nut is 140 ft/lbs.
Here is a photo of a stock PS box with pitman, the gap looks like 3/8" to a 1/2" at most.

Make sure you have a PS pitman, the manual pitman has a smaller hole.
