"Street Thunder" Magazine is a brand new magazine headed by Scott Parkhurst of Popular Hot Rodding fame with a new approach to actually support what will hopefully be a huge national car club called the National Street Machine Club (NSMC).

The magazine will be published bi-monthly (6 issues/year) and will feature cars from all genres, "take-it-to-the-garage" techniques, auto industry updates, and more. Damn Dude. I hesitated posting because I didn't want to sound like a commercial for my new mag...

...but since you brought it up (unsolicited even!!), I will thank you for doing so and let everyone know that what he says is true. There will be a long list of benefits and a good look at a wide range of American cars (hot rods, customs, musclecars, and lots of g-Machines).

Anyone with questions can PM me anytime, and you have my word this new mag/club will kick major ass. I saw the first issue while at a media show in Cali last week. Very nice magazine. The "club" format is a great idea: Features are all club member vehicles, so these are real cars owned by real hot rodders like us. I suggest that everyone join.

Well, it's good enough the editor claims Minnetonka as his home site, so the odds are at least somewhat good that something will happen somewhere around the midwest. Personally, I'd like to see something at Mid America Motorplex (http://www.midamericamotorplex.com/). Road course and 1/8th mile drag facility with plenty of parking for the poser in all of us...

If it's on the west coast it's likely to get more of a 'sigh' than anything else. They get too much Pro-Touring stuff as it is. Hell...if it weren't for this site you wouldn't know Pro-Touring existed east of the Grand Canyon. It's time us Mid-West/East Coast guys starting getting some bones thrown our way. Sorry...don't mean to whine or anything. Well....maybe I do.

Looks like the same cowl I have. Mines a Harwood that bolts into the factory hinges and uses the factory latch just order softer springs from them too.

I have no idea what that could even be referring to. I know they've got 10 clubs here, with 4.5 million members covering a wide range of topics (hunting, fishing, golf, etc.) and 20 percent of them have chosen to be "Life Members" in their respective clubs. Apparently, lots of club members don't ever want to be without it. The "Life Memberships" range from 300-500 bucks, depending on the club, which is significant to me. So, apparently people are quite satisfied with the manner in which these clubs are run.

This "club" program was a major reason I took the position. They've started lots of these clubs and none of them have ever failed, been dissolved, or stopped for any reason. They've all been fine-tuned to be really beneficial to the membership and people seem happy with them. The employees here are long-term, and many have been here for a large percentage of the 27 years they've been in business.

I don't plan on going anywhere anytime soon. I've been given lots to work with here and the chance to do something fresh and different with a ton of potential. I've learned much in my years in publishing and engine building (I used to build race engines professionally), so I know what to look for, what to do, and what not to do. I've been asked to deliver a killer magazine 6 times a year and I intend to do so.

I also recently got married and I want to raise a family.

So, I'm putting some roots down and I intend to ride this out for a good long time. This company also produces some TV shows to support their other clubs (hunting and fishing shows on cable), and they're talking about Street Thunder in a similar manner. This means I'd probably be invited to host such a show, and anyone who knows me would tell you I'd love to give it a shot. I've done some other TV stuff before and it was great fun (plus...my Mom loves this stuff). So, I think I'll bust ass here and see what the future holds. I don't have any of the restrictions once placed upon me, I don't have layers of management telling me what I can and cannot do, I don't have monthly deadlines, I'm not being asked to write 16 issues per year, and I'm getting fair compensation.

Why go anywhere?

I'm giving this everything I've got...and I've got more than I was ever able to print before. I love chopped customs and vintage rods as much as g-Machines, and now I can openly write about all of them. I might even build a hot rod. I might get to finish my custom. I might get to finally finish my g-Machine. So much to do...and I can afford a big garage! One that's in the same area code as my office!

I ain't goin' nowhere....

Well said my man!!!! I know what it is like to work for a company that claims to be pro-active, but is trully just reactive. To me the key to being happy somewhere is the ability to be creative even if it is not such a good idea sometimes. The unfortunate side of many companies is that they are afraid to take a risk or look outside the box.


I am trully happy for you now and I think that we will soon reap the benefits of the situation that you are now in!!!! I can't wait until thousands of us put the whole "micro-management, corporate america" structured publications in a tail-spin.

I'm still smiling about the notion of a magazine that actually supports a national car club :usa:

Since the magazine/club is just getting started, I hope you can understand the following substitutions:

Aston Martin Vanquish S V12 (to allude capture by enemy agents at Car Craft, HotRod, etc) has been changed to a 1990 Ford Aspire. This will allow you to avoid detection since they would never suspect an agent to be driving such a piece.

Several sets of Valentino suits (have to look professional) has been changed to a $50 gift certificate at the local thrift store of your choosing. You should be able to find an entire wardrobe in there for this amount of cash. Note: Try to avoid the polyester suits unless you're going undercover on "Pimp My Ride" or something similar.

Walther P99 semi-automatic (for same reason as Aston Martin) has been changed to a month's supply of Enzite, the choice for natural male enhancement. It may not be fully automatic, but it is a bigger gun...

Buxom blond female partner with hour glass figure (again....have to look professional). Has been changed to a blow up doll. Sit her in the passenger's seat and not only will you qualify for the car pool lanes, her presence will deter anyone from trying to plant a bomb in the car while she's on watch. Not likely to happen because of the anti-detection Ford Aspire social profile you'll be keeping, but we here at National Magazine Intelligence have a motto - Safety First!

Oh, that brings up another point... don't mind the smell of vinegar and the new steering wheel in the Aspire. It's just the air freshener we use...

Also, it wouldn't take a V12 Vanquish to outrun HR and CC staffers. After seeing them play with their toys at Hotchkis' Media day, my 'ol station wagon proved to be more reliable, and I enjoyed passing thier trailered (stretchered?) "hot rods" on the ride home in my Conestoga....

They've since upgraded to make their cars more reliable, and if I can make it to the next Media runoff, I will. There's been a few changes to "Connie" too.

Your '68 would be plenty of car to elude possible pursuers, and if I need help from "Mitchigan", I'll certainly let ya know...
