Thank God.. lol

Even though this was a street car we had the goal of getting it into the 11s.

Well, I set up to go to a private track day. $115 for 100 cars, all day. Normally that means you get 20-30 runs. It sure beats the nomal deal where there are 400 racers and you get 2-3 runs.

Anyways. Showed up, tossed on some ET Streets, set them to 15psi and ran the car.

The first run I blew the shift and went into neutral (hitting the rev limiter.. oops!). That's just me not being use to the ratchet shifter. Anyways, The results were 1.786 60ft time, 7.714 in the 1/8 mile and then I coasted through the lights for a 13.464 at 72.64 mph. lol

The next run I got my act together and ran 1.789 60ft time, 7.667 in the 8th for a run of 11.995 at 113.37. :woot:

Now I was hoping to be able to try different tire pressures and messing with the adjustable shocks, but everything that could go wrong at the track happened. A guy crashed bad and had to go to the hospital. Our ambulance was later borrowed by the oval track, so we couldn't run for an hour.

Then, every joker with a turbo started blowing up thier junk and oiling the track. Then the sweeper broke and they couldn't clean the left lane, so we were down to run lane for the rest of the day.

So I got three lousy stinking runs in for $115... I'm sure I could have gotting into the 11.80-11.70 range given my trap speed, but I will just be happy knowing I did get the big ass Ford into the 11's. Even if it's just barely.

Now I can finish up the car and get it to her new home back east.

Here's a vid of my screwed up run.. at least the launch looks good. (it's RUN 12).

Wait a minute.........I thought this car was sitting in one of Bill's buildings. :hmm:

At what point did I get lost in this story?

Eventually, their weather sucked in TN, so it stayed here for a bit, which is good for Yancy since it's now getting an AODe trans and a Vintage Air system. It should be heading east in the next 30 days. :)

I can walk 60 ft in that time! You edit the 60's and I'll say "you da man!"

--JMarsa

Woops.. gotta love the typo. Hope I don't do that in the story!

Seeing as how he lists the 1/8 as less than the time of his 60ft it is safe to say there is a typo in there :p

Hey Steve,

Just be glad that the Fairlane wasn't one of the contributors to the "slow" raceday!

Congrats on reaching your goal. I guess there won't be an actual grudge match with Hunkins' Chevelle since you sold the Fairlane.

Awesome success Steve w/ the Fairlane. :woot:
Christmas has come early here in Tennessee.
Maybe by RTT4, your shifting skills will get better.....:lmao:

I really doubt Hunkins would actually go through with that.

He's too fast.. it ran a 11.30 at 117.. hard to beat all that big block torque. He also has a better rear suspension for launching.

Oh well, mines prettier.. lol

I shift manual transmissions just fine.. I don't get much practice with the ratchet deal.

It's AODe time.. which will be nice since driving on the freeway right now sucks big time.

Wow, he was taking crap on the chevelle board for only running 11.7's with that 496 a couple of months ago, what did he do to step it up?

That's the problem with the board.. lots of keyboard warriors. Without a cage he can't run faster than 11.50 without getting kicked.

Anyways, better fuel system (bigger supply line) and he went to a bigger stall converter.

Congrats! Maybe I missed it, but has Penny ever been down the 1/4?

Thats the problem with every board, the post count equals smarts mentality.

Not yet.. my biggest problem would be traction... especially on these new harder tires.

When things slow down a bit I will get out there.

lol.. yea, sometimes.. :)

Oh, BTW.. I typoed.. he ran 11.30.. NOT 10.30..

Ahh, 11.30 is very believable, 10.30's would take a major change.

BTW, congrats, 11's in the fairlane with a (big) small-block is very respectable, actually 11's in anything streetable is pretty damn good. It's nice to see magazine cars actually make it to the track, with dollars and warts exposed and not sugar coated. Adds credibility to everything else you print.

Congratualtions Steve.
It was cool watching the build of the Fairlane.
You have to feel good about what you were able to accomplish..
Whats next?

A '68 Camaro.. duh! lol

Project Track Rat.. a more affordable and "less shiny" version of Penny... More back to basics, but still nice.

I will hopefully have a rendering soon.

Steve,
Love the name and love the concept..
I have recently come to the conclusion that it is really the engine, drivetrain, brakes and suspension that make me happy. :woot:
The bling and the perfect paint...cause me to obsess over chips and
spend countless hours of polishing...
Your biggest challenge with "Project Track Rat" will clearly be
avoiding the temptations of shiny stuff..:wedgie:

That should be easy.. the wheels will be flat black.. the paint will be satin blue.. the chome will be brushed nickel.. The only "shiny" parts will be aluminum bits that have been milled in raw aluminum.

I'm pretty sure it will be a modified factory sub and no mini-tubs in the back (at least in the beginning). I'm going to spend on nice parts where it counts, performance stuff.

Steve,

Glad to hear things are going well with the Fairlane one question why AODe and not just an AOD just wondering since I have an AOD that will be going into mine.

P.S. I like the idea of your next project I'm all about "less shiny" it means less time cleaning and more time driving.

I had actually asked TCI for an AOD tranny, but they had a new constant pressure valve body in thier AODe so that's what they sent for the story. I figure it would be a good learning experience.

From what I've heard the AODe is stronger than the AOD and the computer lets you easily adjust for tire heigth and such.

Sounds cool..
Satin blue.. I can't wait to see that.
I have been contemplating a satin black car...
It never crossed my mind that other colors could be done in "satin"

I think your right about the AODe being stronger I remember reading somewhere that the input shafts are bigger on the AODe but I couldn't pass up the deal on my AOD since "free " is always a good price.
