Hey Herb,

The new wheel and tire combination look awesome!! The new GA3 wheels are popping up on a LOT of rides... I plan to use them on my car as well! The Forgeline ZX3R are kinda dated since they've been around so long... These REALLY look great. :headbang:

I think you, Bryce, and Mary made a great choice for our "mandated" 200-rated tires for the p-t events... I sure wish they would step up and make a 335-wide tire in an 18". Unfortunately, right now they stop at a 315-wide. :crying:

Great looking wheels Herb, congrats on the new set of Forgelines. I have aquired a 66 SS427 marina blue Chevelle in a trade. While it is all stock, I may have to at least put a set of wheels on it. I just love this body style, so who knows, may have to keep it a while.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the positive feedback!

Bill - you know you're going to have to keep the '66 and join the Chevelle fraternity!

Ray - I had a hard time finding 200 treadwear tires with the front & rear sizes I wanted. I think what I ended up with will work well.

Tom - Yes, we are now a two set family. :)

Ron - I almost went with the center lock deal Frank posted about then decided I didn't want to cut down 20 studs to make it work.

Perfect choice on the wheels! Looks Awesome!... You may want to consider putting that warpaint back on the spoiler, this thing is ready for battle!

Looks Great!! I would ask you what you are doing with your old ones.. But I don't have anything they would fit and I don't need another project! haha! So what do you think of the tires? I've noticed a lot of people going with the falken tires.

Thanks! The SP3Ps are going on the El Camino after I have the centers redone in the HTM finish. I haven't driven it yet, but considering the Chevelle is "tire width challenged" compared to a lot of the cars on this forum, I'm hoping the 200 treadwear will help out.

What size and back space on the wheels? Tire size? I'm very close to ordering the Ride Tech coil over level 3 system for my 66 and it looks like the tire and wheel combo you have fits perfect. Here is a picture of my car now,

Nice looking Chevelle! It reminds me of on my friend had just after we got out of high school. Once you get your Ridetech system installed, you're going to have entirely new feelings for your Chevelle!

The front wheels are 18 x 8.5 (5.2" bs) w/ 255/40-18 and the rear wheels are 18 x 10 (5.5" bs) w/ 295/40-18.

I'm looking to purchase the same setup for my 66 chevelle. Cheap champion radiator that is in the car now just isn't cutting it. I've noticed on the ron davis website that they mention you need 7.5 inches of clearance to run this setup. I have a 468 big block with a long water pump and a March Serpentine setup. Just curious how well yours fit and what kind of front accessories you were running on your big block? Thanks in advance for any info that you are willing to pass on!

Alex, I'm pretty sure a long water pump setup won't clear. I have a short pump with pulleys and brackets from Jones Racing Products (http://www.jonesracingproducts.com/) and it's a tight fit.

It's hard to believe the last real update I posted was way back in July 2013!!! Now that the C10 and El Camino are pretty much good to go for now, I've turned my attention back to the Chevelle.

The plan calls for a new chassis (modified stocker), finally getting the aluminum 509 done, updating the exterior, and updating the interior.

This is the donor '66 chassis I started with:

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/Chevelle/BluVelle%20V2_2017/Chassis/00001_zpsfjc7g14s.jpg.html)

Once I got it home, the first thing I did was disassemble it and get it sandblasted.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/Chevelle/BluVelle%20V2_2017/Chassis/00003_zpsaf1nblic.jpg.html)

Then I sprayed some primer on it because I knew it would be a while before I actually got to it.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/Chevelle/BluVelle%20V2_2017/Chassis/00004_zpsjbab3kw8.jpg.html)

The other thing I did a few years ago was to purchase a front C5 based clip from Scott Mock. I've seen all the negative threads going around, but I bought this before any of that stuff happened. Based on my measurements, everything on my clip appears to be pretty square, so I'm good with it.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/Chevelle/BluVelle%20V2_2017/Chassis/00007_zpsvich7r3r.jpg.html)

Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago and I actually started! The first step was to install the SPC and ATS components on the chassis so I could locate the spindle location on the table. I wanted to be sure the front wheels ended up in the same spot once I was done. I made these stands that put the hub and rotor at the same height as if the wheels and tires were in place. Once I was satisfied with that, I stripped it down to the frame.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/Chevelle/BluVelle%20V2_2017/Chassis/00006_zpspsd70pty.jpg.html)

Then I stripped the clip bare and set it on the frame to get an idea of where and how much to cut off.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/Chevelle/BluVelle%20V2_2017/Chassis/00008_zpsnowaifft.jpg.html)

Next, I rolled it outside the shop and cut out the front crossmember and frame rails fore and aft of the engine location.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/Chevelle/BluVelle%20V2_2017/Chassis/00009_zpsf9kicoa9.jpg.html)

With the stock crossmember gone, I was able to place the new one so I could start getting it squared up and in the proper location.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/Chevelle/BluVelle%20V2_2017/Chassis/00010_zps5twcarxv.jpg.html)

Once I got the clip where I wanted it, I checked tire clearance and there appears to be enough room for a 315! Also, with the upper control arms bolted to the chassis without any alignment shims, caster came in at 5.5* and camber is -1.5*, which gives me room to dial it in with shims.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/Chevelle/BluVelle%20V2_2017/Chassis/00011_zpssu8ms71v.jpg.html)

So this is where I am now...

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/Chevelle/BluVelle%20V2_2017/Chassis/00013_zpscuboclnw.jpg.html)

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/Chevelle/BluVelle%20V2_2017/Chassis/00012_zpsdu8rmulb.jpg.html)

I still have to tie in the front frame horns and bend arms for the front anti-roll bar. Once that's done, I can move on to the rear frame section.

Amazing car! I'm in the process of building a '67, and Im shooting for a similar wheel/tire setup as your car. I really like the way both of your setups looked. My question is, was there a reason you went with 18s on the back with the newer wheels? I liked the way the 19s looked on the rear, but I was wondering which setup you preferred and why. I wish photobucket hadn't destroyed everyones build threads, I would really like to see pictures of it with the newer wheel/tire setup. I was able to find 1 picture of it on Forgelines website, but that's all I can find to compare to the 19"/18" pics I have saved. Thanks

Thanks for the compliments and yeah, photobucket screwed everyone! When it was time for wheels on the Chevelle I went with the 18's on the rear due to better tire choices with the 200 tread wear rating. I'm considering selling the set of Forgelines that are on the Chevelle if you have any interest.

On the El Camino, I recently went with Bridgestone RE11 because they're a 200 tread wear tire in a 19" size. They seem to work pretty good on a road course, but there's not enough time on an autocross to heat them up enough to get sticky.
