way off topic: how are you pictures organized?

I bought an external hard drive and want to organize my pictures i have saved over the years, 10,000+ car pictures! haha one point i started to organize them but them stopped just seeing how you all do it. By make? Model?

Having almost lost all of my last years pics because my video card and hard drive got replaced and was lucky enough to be able to retrieve them ,I realized how my memory works for them.

Every month or what ever interval you choose you should put them on a disc. Not just the most recent ones but all of them. A disc cost less than a can of pop and sometimes they might get corrupted or damaged and maybe just plain lost or confused with some other disc. There is enough room on a DVD to hold a couple of years worth of pics for me.

You are doing what I was told to do and put them on an external hard drive but that can go bad too. I like the little usb memory card idea I was given too. Not as easily corruptable and it forces you to do your backup more often.

I decided to just go by the date system and with the pics of my own car on seperate discs too. I figured I will never be able to remember where in the disc they are at unless they are at the beginning and when I remember I saw them. With all of your pics on each disc you will always be able to keep going deeper in to find what you are looking for if you start at an earlier disc than you remember.

If you have the time to categorize all of your pics by make and model and show , race or build pics you will be doing it forever. Sometimes it is fun to just watch the slide show until you find what you are looking for but even that can take a long time.

Iwill be interesting to see how others do it but I would think that Steve Rupp will have the best way since he really does have to keep track off them for his job!!!

You can also put them in places on the net and can access them from anyones computer and retrieve them anytime you want!!! It's there memory why not use it when you want !!!

Hey,

I have mine set by make ---then model ---then more specific descriptions.

i.e.
Folder "Chevy" -subfolder "Camaros" -subfolder "Mary Pozzi's 2nd Gen" & "My 68" & "Rupps Penny"...etc.

Car event pictures usually end up in a Car Events folder.

it takes a long time to do set it up, but once its all done, it really easy to keep organized...in each of the folders I do just what Tony does, the subfolders within the make by model
