Critics gave this movie an A or A+, & Yahoo users gave it a B. I just watched it & I give it an FFFF+++++ It was the stupidest F$#@ing movei I have ever seen in my life. If you have seen it, what did you think? I can't believe I sat & watched that movie, I can't believe I wasted that time that I will never get back.
OK done ranting, sorry.

I thought it sucked too.....
1) It was SLOOOOOOOOOOOOW
2) The characters hardly interact
3) The main character doesn't even get killed by the bad guy
4) The bad guy doesn't die
5) The bad guy looked like a dork
6) It had agent K from MIB in it
This movie wasn't interesting at all....
There was a lot of cool killing scenes in it tho..... :machine:

Pretty much what JC said. I'll add to it & reemphasize others.
It was SLOW!
Characters all acted & talked like a bunch of inbred hillbillies.
It was SLOW!
Bad guy doesn't die.
It was SLOW!
Characters appear in the movie just so they could show their dead bodies.
It wa... OK I'll stop with the slow comments.
The "good" guy is shown in some pretty good shoot-em-up scenes where he can handle his own. Then out of no where you hear machine guns firing & he ends up dead.
Don't know where the money went.
For no real reason the "good" guys wife gets killed, well you assume she is dead, you don't see it like you do with most of the rest.
Stupid lines.
Looks like the movie takes place in the 70's. Bad guy has a tracking device that he can find the money where ever it goes in the state of Texas.
And, yes you got it, it was SLOW.

Man! You guys messed it up for me!
I was going to see it this weekend, but thanks to you...now I know that in the end the bad guy is a dork. Dang. :)
You should have seen I Am Legend, A Death at a Funeral or Cloverfield instead. I hate when I leave a movie thinking that I'll never get those minutes of my life back. That I just watched 2 hours of junk that replaced brain space that I cherrished more.

No Country For Old Men?
Don't you mean, "No Ending For Movie Patron"? That's what the movie SHOULD have been called.
Scot, this movie has been an issue of intense debate between my friend Joe and I since we left the movie theater a few months ago. I feel exactly the way you do about the movie. Your thoughts are dead on although I felt the acting was superb and so was the casting and it did hold my interest up until it "stopped"....not "ended"....but "stopped".
It was a waste of money on my part and I wish I had those 2 hours of my life back. Why did it win so many awards then? Because the Academy are a bunch of artsy fartsy idiots, that's why.

The movie was slow. So was the bad guy but man was he friggin' insane or what? He is the last person I would ever want to meet. Sadly though, the coolest thing in that movie was the silenced shotgun. Overall it was okay I guess... If you're bored and have nothing else better to do.

I loved the gas station scene in "no country", but the ending did leave me hanging. Doomsday looks good but surely an homage to the road warrior with a female lead.("mad maxi pad"?)

I enjoyed "No Country". If you have seen other Cohen Bros. films (such as Fargo) the bizzare nature of the filming and editing will make more sense. It was intentionally shot as if it were a 70's "B" movie. The story was a metaphor. Every generation thinks the world is going to hell. Which is exactly what our parents thought, and their parents. The main characters "work ethic" was IMO intended to illustrate that values (though twisted) do in fact remain, even if the current generation does not grasp the present day manifestation of the same values that they hold.
I liked "There will be blood" a bit better. The cinematography reminded me a lot of "Giant" and the soundtrack was incredible. It was done by Jonny Greenwood from Radiohead.

I'll second that; see There will be Blood, you wont be disappointed unless you have a short attention span.
I did not see this in theaters, though I just read Cormac McCarthys last book "The Road". Talk about a depressing read.
The Coen bros. did The Big Lebowski though... Easily the best movie ever IMHO.

A guy I work with said it was funny, so I got it & thought it was a waste of time. I didn't laugh except for one time, when Ashton kicks Billy Bob's @$$. That was the best part of the movie.

I liked this ending much better than the theatrical version. I still enjoyed the movie though. Funny thing...I totally expected the lead vampire to be looking for his woman...I figured they made the captive vampire a woman for a reason...and then I was left with the crappy ending you saw in the theatre. I figured...I must have been wrong but now I know. :)
Thanks for sharing Tony!

I thought No Country was a great movie, one of my favorites. You guys are looking at it all wrong. The movie is not about the drug deal gone bad or the good guy/bad guy. It's about Tommy Lee Jones' character. If you realize that, then the ending makes sense. Oh, and the bad guy got the money.

The one part that made no sense was when the bad guy with the page boy haircut was hurt and needed meds from the pharmacy. He looked up and down the street as he opened a gas cap on a car at the curb and lit a gas soaked rag that he stuffed in the fuel filler neck. He then turned around and walked right into the pharmacy as the car exploded. Hello! That car was right in front of the big picture windows of the pharmacy! I can't believe no one would notice he was fooling around with the car and lighting it on fire. Even if folks in Texas were as dumb and they were portrayed to be in that movie.

You have a point there but I thought the good guy was portrayed as a pretty smart guy. He thought of stuff I probably wouldn't.

I really enjoyed this movie also. I saw it weeks before the awards so I had few expectations other than it was done by the Cohen Bros so anything was possible but your typical Hollywood movie. I loved the dialog throughout the movie - actually really clever I thought. I did not like the ending as much as the rest of the movie. I was surprised that it did pick up the best picture award - I did not think it would appeal to the masses as much. Maybe I enjoyed it more because we were skiing that week and the mountain had closed-in that day so we were killing-time anyway and in no rush. And yes, on my recomendation a friend went to see it and we have been debating the film ever since - she hated it. Similar to this hobby on PT - we don't all like the same cars and that's cool. Life would be sh*tty and boring if we all liked the same stuff. Thanks for the thread.

well thank god someone actually understood the movie. I thought it was one of the most thought provoking movies made in the last ten years. The characters are super rich and calculating. The villan is so cold and mechanical, he alone was interesting. It's not the typical "good guy wins, good guy gets girl, bad guy dies, happy ending" film. It is artistic, but not near as much as say 300 was.

That and a rag in a gas tank filler wouldn't cause it to blow up.

Dialogue and context, dialogue and context. Coen Bros. one-two oscar winning combo punch.
First time in a while I've agreed with whom the Academy has given awards to. Daniel-Day Lewis was hands down the best actor this year, and No Country, best picture. Amazing flick.

transformers was only cool because of the camaro, but in reality it was not a good movie. no character development for the main characters which are supposed to be the robots. the movie was incomplete in my opinion.
no country for old men was very complete. it was a slow paced suspenseful movie but why does every movie have to be so fast? at this pace it'll be no wonder why people are increasingly exhibiting adhd symptoms. look at how crazy some of this cartoons and movies are now. no thought, just pure visually eye candy or action.

My thoughts exactly. Have you tried watching a primetime tv drama nowadays? Half the show is replaying what JUST happened before the break, and every 4 episodes you get a 'recap' week. Not to mention repetitious commercials, advertisements, etc. I can't remember what it is (ironic) but i remember seeing a commercial that was a pure test to see how many times someone could say the product name and post it on the screen, in a 30 second clip. It seems as though television companies almost cater to various forms of ADD nowadays.
Glad I have a DVR.

the end WAS disappointing, the end for the main dude who finds the money that is. i really was hoping for him to get away. but just like in real life, things don't always go as planned. i think that's why i like it too, it's not hollywood like transformers or irobot (really??) or forest gump.
death proof was only good for its car scenes. i don't think it was a great movie though, quentin tarantino seems too have talent for taking other ideas and scenes and incorporating his sense of humor and quirkyness to a movie. in reality all of his latest movies seem to personify women as bold heroic characters. i am not against it, i'm just not in to it.

If you really want to argue about a movie, rent "donnie darko"
Now that was a steaming pile but I dug "No Country" and watched it twice to see all the little details.
And get over the villain's haircut! It was set in 1980 and that was a current yet goofy hairstyle like many others at the time. Would you rather find him attractive????
Good guy gets girl and money and kills bad guy is sooooooooo John Wayne-Hollywood and lame and predictable. That's why Clarence was supposed to die in the end of True Romance as it was written by Tarantino. Anybody see that? One of the most underrated IMO movies of the last decade.
