I am putting some of the factory splashguards on my 69 Camaro.
( The ones that staple to the front inner fenders )

Which side of the inner fender do the splashguards staple to ?
The inside ( toward the engine compartment )
OR
The outside ( like where the tire is , in the wheelhousing itself )

I have a factory assembly manual and it appears that they staple in the wheel housing ( the outside )
That doesn't seem right, Like they would come loose easier.
I've seen several cars with them on the outside.
I've seen a few with them on the inside.

???????

On the wheel side IIRC.

If they go on the wheel side of the inner fender , then which way do the staples go ?
The old staples I removed from the car were facing outward , like put in from the engine side.
It seems like they would hold better if they were put in from the wheel side.
(The staples in my car may have been replaced incorrectly in the past )

this is an actual question. you have one of the most popular cars ever built and you are going to put splash guards on it. there is a reason why very few people run them......cause they are ugly as pointess as hell. your call will still get dirty. are you mud bogging? if not then leave them off please...for the sake of the camaros legendary history...please please leave them off.

No No No !
Not the ones that go on the outside of the fender opening !

The ones that go under the hood that drape over the control arms.
They came on the cars from the factory.
They just help to keep road grime from getting into the engine compartment.
They're just a flexible rubber flap-thingy.
( Year One calls them "splash shields ".)

Couldn't you see me with some of those Trucker flaps with the silhouette of a naked woman hanging behind the rear wheels ? ( LOL )
I'm not that much of a Redneck.
Damn .

Well , to be honest with you , you had me wondering about myself for a minute there.
I thought I was loosing it. ( Like Twilight Zone )

You know what splash shields I'm talking about ? Right ?
'68 cars came with them too.

The staples are installed from the engine side. The shields install as Nick stated above.

Folding over the stainless staples is a PITA.

Thanks Guys.
The whole design kinda looks bad from GMs' end.
Like " who designed this ? "

Thanks again , I think I got it figured out .

Carl , you are right about the staples.
I may use different retainers.
Maybe some late style/modern push-in retainers.
My car is not a numbers matching resto anyway.
So better ideas are welcome.
