So I was working on the car today and found that the quarter panels I put on a couple years ago with glue weren't holding at all, so I've decided to get new quarters and weld them on this time. I have a couple questions about installing factory quarters. I started to heat up and remove the lead at the top of the sail panel. How is the quarter panel attached to the car once the lead is removed? Also, how do I attach the new quarter to drip rail. The last time I did it, I cut the panel so it was close but I would rather not cut the new quarters at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

i have never put a quarter on a car that has drip rails, so i can't help you there. after you remove the lead there should be some spot welds holding it together. use a drill bit slightly bigger than the spot weld them selves. try not to drill through both pieces of steel, just far enough to get through the first skin. when you re-instal the new quarter apply weld through primer to th flat surfaces, and drill holes in the same joint and plug weld them. it will be held just like the factory did.

You can also buy a spot weld cutter that fits in your drill. It will cut the surrounding metal of the weld so you can remove the panel. you will have to go back and sand off the remaining spot weld, but the under panel will not be damaged.

I am also going to be replacing quarters on my 68 camaro. there are drip rails on this. I dont' have an answer for ya either, but look forward to anyone that does..

I was just doing some checking.. It looks like they might just bolt on behind the roof's weather striping. I then think they are caulked on top..

Is this correct?

Hopefully someone that knows will answer as this is just a guess. It'll be a little while until I get to that point in my project.

actually yes they do make them, i actually just used one at work today. i just figured with that little amount of spot welds you might as well just use a drill bit. and no the quarter panel doesn't bolt on unless you drive a saturn or a newer corvette.
