Hello All,

I am running a 355 with a Vortech SC and I am trying to maintain a decently quiet exhaust. I am building a 3" collector into a single 4" that then goes ovalized and heads towards the back. This is on an 85 Monte SS.

What mufflers have you guys used that retain a decent exhaust note, while bearably quit to drive around town and be able to pull up next to "grandma" and not shake the rearview off of her windshield?

and who makes g-body kits? I cant seem to find anyone with a kit on the market

Thanks in advance!

Well, after some more searching, I cant seem to find much for the 4" so it looks like ill end up with 3" x pipe and magnaflows...

I think 3" and the X pipe with the Magnaflows will be a good choice,

I had a 4" system on a LS1 Trans Am, and there was nothing I could do to make it bearable while putting around town. Started out with a Mufflex cat back (came with a flowmaster muffler) and no cats - WAY to loud. Installed dual cats, which helped, but not near enough.

As you've found, there aren't many "street" friendly mufflers available in that size ... I tried a Dynomax round welded muffler, as well as a Dynatech 4" muffler (both in the longest case dimensions I could find), and never found something that would get the noise level acceptable. If it wasn't a daily driver I could have lived with it, but I didn't like being the a-hole that woke up the neighborhood every morning on my way to work.

Pypes makes both 2.5" and 3" stainless true daul kits for the G-Body. Part numbers are SGG10R(2.5" side exit) SGG11R(2.5" rear exit) and SGG12R(3" rear exit) all of which have x-pipes. You will have to change to or fabricate a double hump crossmember.
