I need to remove the busted u-joint from the rear of my drive shaft. The replacement I have matches the description in the Haynes manual, but the one on the car does not!

There are no external circlips, no internal snap rings. I cannot see how the current one is held in, and neither can I work out how to remove it.

Here is the offending article:

Can anyone please offer some advise to get me out of a hole, I need the car back on the road yesterday!

I’m no expert, but it looks like it would have inside snap rings. What’s under the rubber boot?

Sorry I can’t be more help. My Camaro had outside C clips.

If that is a '70's or up GM, as I think it is, it is held on with injected plastic. You'll need a propane torch, or the like, to heat up the driveshaft ends. If you look, you'll see a 4 holes with plastic sticking out. When you heat it, plastic will ooze out. After it cools, remove lkie normal. Be careful with the heat, burning plastic and grease, flying out under pressure are no fun. Re-install with internal snap rings.

Hilrod's got it. Plastic injected u-joint retention.

Torch to the joint only. Clean. Install new with inside snap ring type u-joint.
