I'd bet somebody in Charlotte posted some old pics just to bother a Moparhead friend who was looking for a new project, as that car would have started a bidding war pretty quick, even if the owner knew nothing about cars.

You never know if the ad is real the first one who saw may have got there with the $$ so quick no one had time for a bidding war. If it is real we now have the deal of the Milinium (sic??)..........
Keep your eye on Ebay it will be on soon if its real!

If it was real I doubt that they would have informed us that it left the garage for 1300. There would be 20 people there in half an hour, and that ol' lady would know she had something special.

Someone is having a good laugh over that add.

Similar deal happened in OK, I know about 5-7 years ago. A guy driving down the road noticed a wing under a shed and stopped to look. Kid had bought a Superbird new, went to NAM, did not return. Sat under a tarp all that time. Car sold for less than $10K.

The right place at the right time. I bought a 36 3 window coupe a few years ago for 4800, that 3 weeks before was 50 dollars and the guy that sold it helped load it on the trailer.

Wow that was kind near me well I would have made the drive for that one. pretty sure it was a joke especially with the pics and the car is half covered just giving you a peak of it.

I been thinking about this all day....

Last year, there was a '57 belair convertable in the local classifieds for $900. I called and the guy hung up on me. So I called back and got his voicemail. The voicemail said, "If you are calling about the "57 belair, it is not for sale. I don't even have a '57 belair. This was a practical joke by one of my friends. Thanks to them, my phone bill for this month was over $300. Click!"

Could be that this ad was a practical joke that someone played on his friend. All you have to do is put their phone number on the ad. I thought about doing it to one of my friends, but it just seemed so cruel! But I guess maybe this could have been what this ad was....

Although, My x uncle went with friend to look at a "61 chevrolet" in an ad (they were Imp people) and the old lady took them into the garage and it was a 61 vette with less than 3,500 miles on it. She wanted something like $3,000 for it since that is what her son paid for it new, and never came back from the war (korea?). They could not do it (karma is a bitc#!) and told her it was worth more like $30,000 (early 90's). She actually got pretty pissed and told them that if they did not want it for that, then she would sell it to someone that would! So, they bought it! LOL!
So, I guess there are still some of them out there, just few and far between!

BTW- This is NOT and urban legend!

actually i heard that same story from a guy up here. the son had bought the car just before he went to vietnam (korea was 50-53 a little early for a 'vette) and never came back. did a reverse haggle to get the price up to 10k, still a great deal.

SOUNDS ALOT LIKE THE COUNTRY SONG "PRIVATE MALONE"

I was just out of the service thumbing through the classifieds
When an ad that said:"Old Chevy" somehow caught my eye
The lady didn't know the year,or even if it ran
But I had that thousand dollars in my hand

It was way back in the corner of this old ramshackle barn
Thirty years of dust and dirt on that green army tarp
When I pulled the cover off,it took away my breath
What she called a Chevy was a sixty six Corvette

I felt a little guilty as I counted out the bills
But what a thrill I got when I sat behind the wheel
I opened up the glove box and that's when I found the note
The date was nineteen-sixty six and this is what it wrote:

He said,"My name is Private Andrew Malone"
"If you're reading this,then I didn't make it home"
"But for every dream that shattered, another one comes true"
"This car was once a dream of mine, now it belongs to you"
"And though you may take her and make her your own"
"You'll always be riding with Private Malone"

Well it didn't take me long at all,I had her running good
I love to hear those horses thunder underneath her hood
I had her shining lika a diamond and I'd put the rag top down
All the pretty girls would stop and stare as I drove her through town

The buttons on the radio didn't seem to work quite right
But it picked up that oldie show, especially late at night
I'd get the feeling sometimes,if I turned real quick I'd see
A soldier riding shotgun in the seat right next to me

It was a young man named Private Andrew Malone
Who fought for his country and never made it home
But for every dream that's shattered, another one comes true
This car was once a dream of his, back when it was new
He told me to take her and make her my own
And I was proud to be riding with Private Malone

One night it was raining hard,I took the curve too fast
I still dont remember much about that fiery crash
Someone said they thought they saw a soldier pull me out
They didn't get his name, but I know without a doubt

It was a young man named Private Andrew Malone
Who fought for his country and never made it home
But for every dream that's shattered, another one comes true
This car was once a dream of his, back when it was new
I know I wouldn't be here if he hadn't tagged along
That night I was riding with Private Malone
Oh,thank God,I was riding with Private Malone

I knew of a lady locally that had her sons Triumph motorcycle in her garage, still in the crate it was a 66/67 Bonnie, but she wanted $6K for it,
