I picked up a 2000 Z28 posi rear end with the intention of grabbing the disc brakes for my 68. But I was wondering if there was any way I could use the whole rear end and possibly convert to coil overs?
Someone somewhere must have done this but I couldn't find anything with a basic search. I realize that the two are completely different (coil over vs leaf) but if you have done this please let me know what you did.
Thanks

It'd be a bad idea...mainly because the rear ends out of the newer f-bodies are the first things to break when adding power to the wheels.

They are like 7.5 10 bolts right? You can buy adapters so you can put the brakes on any other 10 bolt.

Not worth the time and/or money involved to do it as it is a substantially weaker differential.
The monies involved for that modification would not be cost effective by any means, and it would be a downgrade from the OE 8.2" differential. Being a torque arm suspension (not coil over)... you would need to knock the mounts off and weld perches onto it. O you would have to built a TQ arm and LCA mounts into the exisiting chassis. Then have the housing straightened... adapt the brake line fittings... and all that adds up... to no gain.
Except for the brakes of course.
Take the brakes and adapt them to your exisiting housing and sell the remiander to offset the costs.

Ok - thanks. I did not know that the 4th gen rear ends were so weak. What about the LS1 driveshaft? Is this worth using if I can? I will be running a stock LS2/4L60E with headers.

That comes down to a question of correct length. If it fits... sure. But, something tells me its may be a little short for your application.

The driveshaft will be too short for your 68. I have an old 82 Camaro 4spd B/W driveshaft and it was way too short for a 71 camaro, by around a foot.
