Well here it is guys. My hands were shaking anxiously as I popped open the package and peeled away the tissue paper...It's pretty sweet. It still needs a few improvements with the body color and a couple paint hits and tampos are not applied to this sample yet but will be for production. I'm very happy with this piece and I'm sure those who decide to collect it will be too. Here's an exclusive PT.com sneak peak. I just want to give pro-touring.com and all here a big huge thanks for the inspiration for this model and all the support and thanks that came with it. Enjoy the pics and I'll keep you all updated as I go.

Thanks,
John

The Billet Specialties steering wheel still doesn't have the satin black half-wrap on it yet but will in production. You can't see it in this photo but the back surface of the front seats is carbon fiber along with the front chin spoiler being carbon fiber as well. I can't wait until the dialed in final production model arrives!

Very nice, can you show us a peak of the underside?

JohnnyGMachine

Here's the bottom of the car. The transmission is probably too bright a silver - looks too much like a polished aluminum so I will probably tone that down to help the bright finish on the headers pop more.

There's a couple new things...a T56 6-speed, new custom crossmember, side pipes are longer and come out the sides a little further back and a set of custom low profile side exit tips. Hong Kong also has the tires on going in the correct direction this time around.

Perhaps there's more to the story, but I haven't been able to track it down... Why are you having this car made and what is it costing you?

JohnnyGMachine
02-01-2005, 01:41 PM
hey bnoon,
It's not costing me personally anything. I work at GMP diecast as a product developer and this is one of our newest custom diecast programs. I developed all the custom features on our existing tooling from our trans am Camaro 1:18 scale line. We are having it made because we want to offer a great looking PT car for our collectors. Maybe I don't understand your question?

Nope, you understood it just right. I didn't know you were involved with GM. I thought that maybe you were just filty rich and wanted a die cast made of your own car or something, LOL!

LOL....naaah I wish I had the REAL Street Fighter built like this. I am actually getting a model of my car beleive it or not. We're doing a stock 1985 5.0 LX Notchback just like my 85 when I first bought it. Now mine's heavily modified so I guess I'll have to customize it so i have the stock version and the custom version. We just happen to have the 85 Coupe tooling.

Nice!!! Good detail, nice finish. A question though... seems to have real floating calipers, because they seem to be in different places behind the wheels... :hmm:

Yeah, one of them was broken. I tried to remember to position it for certain shops properly but musta missed one. These are still early pre-production samples and I still have about 8 comments on minor tooling adjustments and about 15-20 paint/decoration comments for correction to still be made. This is something I really wanted to share with you guys through the last steps so you can kinda see how the model goes from early tooling through to final production release. Even though you've given all your color specs and tooling is done, the model still needs grooming though a few more stages before we produce the final production samples. It's hard work and a lot of details to oversee but very rewarding in the end.

Very nice John!!

Will www.pro-touring.com be mentioned on the box? (model description)
That should give the buyers a great insight on what PT is....
and some great advertising fot PT.com of course ;-)

Thanks, John. Not to be picky but , as this is a P-T car, why not have mufflers?

I LOVE IT!

I've been collecting the 1:18 Camaros, Corvettes... for some time now and this is one of the best camaros I've ever seen... It is nice to see a 1:18 in something other than the '69 as most of them are '69s...

I'll be more than happy to own one once they become available to the public...

Will these be limited to 2500 copies?

Thanks,
TIM

Hey Rick, I did want to do a full exhaust but due to the amount of new tooled parts we had already done the budget was already pushing it as is for this model. We will be doing atleast 1-2 more of these with completely different options so that you aren't buying the exact same car with just another color. The second or 3rd version will probably have a full exhaust exiting the rear. I've got a wacky design for that as well!

These cars will be limited to 1000 pcs. So beleive me they will not last. We pre-sold almost 800 of the 1000 Kandy Apple Red 89 Drag Mustangs before they even arrived at our warehouse! I think this model will sell even faster. DCX magazine is getting to do the first feature article on this car and there's a very good chance it'll make the cover. I'd also like to do a tie-in with pro-touring.com in the article. I'd like to see if the editor would like to get some commentary about Pro-Touring in general in the article.

www.pro-touring.com will definitely be on the box as well as the logo when I get permission from Larry first. There will be about 6-7 special thanks and credits going out from different sites/people for their help and inspiration on this model. I don't think it's even a question that pt.com be on the box.

Tyler, you'll definitely get one, just make sure that GMP gets exclusive rights for diecast to use a couple of your products on one of the next upcoming models!!! I have a couple ideas! We'll talk.

I'm finishing up the packaging design by the end of the week. So if any of you guys have suggestions let me know.

How do you get on the list to get one? Also let me know when they come out since it would make a cool news blurb for the "speed reading" section I do..

I'm curious to know how to go about getting one as well. My only GMP is a 1:18 GNX and it's amazing. I'd love to add that Camaro to my collection.

I'd like to get one as well. I have the '67 and '68 Mark Donohue/Penske cars and The Smokey Yunick Camaro from GMP. I would love to get all three versions of the PT car as well. How can I pre-order?

P.S. If you guys sign up for Tom's Garage you can get a sneak peak of 4-5 prototypes we are currently working on that is not available to the public...unless of course you are a member of Tom's Garage! There's some muscle car prototypes on there that I think some of you guys would get excited about!

Hey John! Just joined Toms garage. However, I could'nt look at all the photos of prototypes, as it would only allow you to see the "intro" photo? Is that correct? I hoped to see detailed photos of the different upcoming models. I also added a few samples of my PT type Camaros to the members garage section. I will buy the Street Fighter '68 Camaro; put me down as a preorder. Also can't wait to get the 93(?) Cobra also! Keep up the great work!

PM me a price and also do you have any of the mustang drag cars left or are they all gone?

Thanks,
William

JohnnyGMachine

There should be about 4-5 pics of some different prototypes. The fun thing about the page is that you get to see either a piece of the car or one angle as just a a teaser. But we try to put enough of the car in the photo so that you can look at it and figure out what it is. Yep that's a 93 Cobra. This is also all new tooling for the fox bodies, not the existing tooling. We're very far into the development of this program and the first new "fox-body" 1:18 will be coming out soon this year.
As far as Drag Mustangs, there's about 200+ left and they will probably sell out within the next month or so. We pre-sold about 700 of them before they even arrived at the wharehouse. I predict the PT Camaro to do even better. I wished we had made more than a 1000 of them. Maybe we'll have to do another one in another color for the people that won't be able to get the Street Fighter. We've already taken almost a 100 pre-orders on the PT Camaro and it's not even gotten really any press yet. A lot of our dealers that sell our product are all over that PT Camaro. We even had one dealer that wanted to get a custom run order of 300 in a color of his choosing. That doesn't happen a lot! Hopefully I can do my part to get pro-touring into the diecast mainstream. Help to open more eyes to the pro-touring style.

I like it! I'm also glad you're making changes to the exhaust. The further back, the better.

I don't see the camaro on your site to pre-order.

JohnnyGMachine

Hey guys,

The Camaro pics will be added to the site soon. The official arrival of the finished production PT Camaros at our warehouse is May. We are taking pre-orders for it though. Basically you call GMP and you ask for Alice or one of the sales guys can help you.

The idea behind the Street Fighter Camaro was to create a no holds barred Trans Am Camaro for the street that's barely legal. Trans Am Camaros have side exhaust so I wanted to keep a little of the Trans Am flavor in it. I'm not generally one to like side exit exhausts but for this particular concept it was what i thought would work. The second car will most likely have it as well. With this PT Camaro tooling I planned 3 cars out meaning I thought we could easily sell 3 versions of the PT Camaro. The thought was by the third car to maybe change the wheels, go with full exhaust, and maybe add turbos or something. Anyways, don't worry I plan to get the PT.com board much more involved in upcoming PT styled models!
