big brakes on a chevelle on the cheap???

Any ideas for big break conversions on the cheap. Im doing a 68 chevelle and Im looking for something easy as possible on the wallet IF THATS POSSIBLE.

The search function will be your friend for doing a junkyard C5 or LS brake swap. After you take your time, efforts, and braking performance into consideration, it's really hard to beat http://www.touring-classics.com/ or www.Kore3.com (http://www.Kore3.com).

You can always go the junkyard route with the C5 or LS brakes, there's nothing wrong with that, but once you add it all up, you may be pretty close to the same price as if you'd just picked up the phone and been done with it. That's just a decision your budget and you will have to make.

If you go the C5/C6 brakes route, sign up on www.corvetteforum.com - you can pick up a full used set from someone who upgraded for really cheap.

Then you can buy the brackets and lines from Kore3, and you're all set.

If you've got a 4-wheel drum car, you can typically refurbish your front drums and cut down the outside diameter to save some coin as well. This will be true for either a T-C or KORE3 kit. Just be sure you clean and inspect your hubs really well before you sink any time or money into them. It sucks to find out that you rebuilt a set of hubs with spun races or a crack in them.

With the number of guys running AFX spindles, decent OE hubs are getting easier to find as well on the pro-touring and model specific forums if yours need replacement or if you have an OE disc car.

Corvette forums are a great place to find used stuff, but be sure to try and find the creampuff car parts, not the hardcore track guys' stuff. I've seen red calipers come off of C5 Z06 cars that were cooked brown because of how hot they'd gotten.

I have a friend in Italy that found a set of 6 piston Porsche calipers for around $500. I'll have to make a set of caliper mount plates, but that's no big deal for me.
How much are your average 4 piston Brembos? $1K???

AP has some really nice parts, but they are pricey. ISA Racing is in Europe, the info is metric and German. I can understand it but you'll have to figure it on your own. "6-Kolben" is 6 piston and "Kolbendurchmesser" is piston sizing. All the calipers have staggered pistons.
Roughly 1.5 US dollars to 1 Euro and pricing is for each. I think there's an outlet in CA.
