Who makes them that don't go outside the frame rails & that fit good with motor in stock location & WITH AC?

all I can tell you is that Dynatech make some 1 5/8" headers that fit well and install really easy. I believe they are pn: 21900 and are called the circle track headers.

I already have Hooker 1 5/8" on it. Looking for bigger that fit.
Thanks

Supposedly Hedman's 65218 are 1 3/4" & fit. BUT the question is, will they fit with a wide sump road race oil pan.....

I bought Hedmans for my friends 78 Elky, I think that one tube still ran outside the frame, I can take a couple pics and send to you,

Here is a pic that was sent to me, these are Hedman 65219 1-7/8" primaries. Can only see pass side, but I would assume if it doesn't go outside the frame, that the drivers side wouldn't either.

Will those fit with AC? I've found lots that will fit.. but not with AC.

According to the guy that sent me the pic they will. I will call Headman & find out.

I called them direct & he said that the oil pan width cannot be much more than stock or it will hit & that the AC box on the firewall had to go. :-(

Fart! I thought I found one that would work for me.

The orig. headers he put on in the 80s, one tube went outside the frame rail, the new ones are fora A/C car, 1 5/8 tubes I think,

Yeah I have seen all kinds of 1 5/8 ones that all fit inside the frame rails. I have a set of Hooker ones now.

if those fit with a stock oil pan and no a/c box...then those are my next headers!!!!!!! Thanks for the info...we monte owners need to stick together!!

Yes those will fit with NO A/C box & with stock oil pan. I want them too, but won't work for me. Those pictured are 1 7/8" primaries. Hedman P/N 65218 are the 1 3/4".

Let me know if you get them because I am curious what width pan will actually fit.

Has anyone modified the factory G body AC box to make room for headers? PITA?

i tried to modify my old a/c box to fit...but ended up just taking it out. I bought a non a/c heater box but it was all busted up. I plan on getting those 1 7/8 primary headers...do you think they will make the car a lil bit more potent??

Dunno. Remind me, what motor you have? For some reason I have 383 in my head.

I read on another forum that I can get headers from Shoenfeld in 1 3/4" with a 3" collector & with flanges for the fastburn heads (D port shape). Their notes on them say may not fit with some kickout oil pans. So I need to call them & find out what width pan I can use.

1 7/8 is way too big for the street, Unless you are running at 7000 rpm all of the time. In fact you will probably lose alot of low speed torque. 1 3/4 is more than plenty for a street motor.

the motor in the pic has 1 7/8th..... I think thats Mark's old motor IIRC... that motor was pretty much for straight out drags... 9 second car...

He's looking for 1 3/4...

Go buy some tubing and make a set dude.... seems to be the easy way out... =/.

First post and it's a super bump. Did you ever find what you were looking for? I'm in the same market myself.

What heads are you running? I've been telling people that the 1-3/4 hedman hustlers are the way to go. They worked great on my Dart Sportsman 2s and cleared my Milodon pan also.

There are pictures of the clearance between the AC box and rear tube in the link that I posted yesterday

I'm in the same boat you are in man. I have the 1 3/4" hooker headers and i do not like them at all. I've touched the tires on them when i'm in a parking lot or something tighter like that. I'm almost contemplating switching to 1 5/8 cause it's just a street driven malibu. You got pics of your headers that you have in the car now?

Excuse the cell phone pics and the loose wiring. I was in the process of re-routing some wiring during the header install

I am helping a friend with his 78 malibu and he has fast burn heads which have the d port.He would also like to get away from the 1 3/4 around the frame design but we dont know of and d port 1 5/8 headers that will fit the car with ac box.

I have the Heddman 65219's (1 7/8") on my Malibu. They have a adaptor plate that extends them out about 3/8" to mount up to a std straight exhaust bolt pattern. The A/C box had to go on my car (or maybe could have been modified and the cut off corner boxed back up ??), I ended up putting a flat block off plate on. I also cut about 3" off the length of one of the collectors. The 65219's and a typical 7qt mild kick out type pan made changing the oil filter a big mess. I was forced to switch to a remote mount oil filter when I swapped from a TH350 to a TKO600.

But Samckitt, you probably should look at the Schoenfeld (www.schoenfeldheaders.com (http://www.schoenfeldheaders.com)) #186 or #186cm headers or the 186M or 186MCM if you have stock manual clutch linkage. They (like my 65219's) would require you to weld a ring on the collector. The schoenfelds' have a cheap paint on them that basically just keeps them from rusting while sitting around. Anyway they are a very good header for the price (usually about $180) and are 1 3/4" to a 3 1/2" collector. They fit straight & angle plugs but they do require a short oil filter.

Hope that helps you and other G-body guys out.

I ran a Dynomax 1-3/4 ful length that fit awesome. I bought them used after searching for a long time and when I sold my Monte as a roller I sold the headers. I wish they still made them.
