i have a 69 camaro with drum brakes all around. I am looking to upgrade with a set of disk (baer or wilwood). I also want to update the suspension with a set of tall spindles. My question is if I order a kit for the drum spindles and hubs will they work when I go with new spindles?

Unfortunately, it depends. If you use ATS' AFX tall spindle, you HAVE to use C5 brakes or something compatible with a C5 Corvette. You cannot use retrofit disc brakes for a 67-69 Camaro with their spindle. If you use someone else's tall spindle you can pretty much bolt on whatever you want to use that is designed for a 67-69, but other manufacturer's tall spindles introduce other issues. Search around the forum - I think you'll find all kinds of opinions on tall spindles, spindle extenders, tall ball joints, etc.

If it helps, it was suggested to me that the simple G-mod would probably get the handling characteristics I'm looking for with the Hotchkis TVS kit I just installed. To keep this thread on track, I am also about to start a complete Wilwood 12.19" front and rear disc brake conversion with the new DynaPro 6 calipers.

Hope this helps in some meager way!

Geoff, your hired! Geoff is exactly correct. If you use a tall spindle like Fatman, you can swap your Camaro brakes. If you use a AFX spindle, you need Corvette brakes and nothing from you Camaro spindle brakes will work.
Also, as Geoff mentioned, a simple Gulstrand mod or tall ball joint can do a lot.

I agree with all the above.

Awsome. thanks for the info. I was looking at the TVS for a while but thought that the "improved geometry" from DSE or Fat Man tall spindles would be a better option for the front end. You had also mentioned tall balljoints, where would I find info on this.

Thanks Again.

P.S. i am looking for the easiest, or most bolt on route because my fab skills are pretty much non existant.

I would honestly suggest going the AFX tall spindle route then. Zero modifications to vehicle (No Guldstrand mod necessary). Bolt on C5/6 Corvette brakes. Virtually zero bumpsteer. Better camber gain. If I owned a first gen, I wouldn't buy anything else.

You may want to give Marcus at www.sc&c.com (http://www.sc&c.com) a call. They're a sponsor and he's a great resource to compare and contrast the pros and cons of the ATS AFX versus Gouldstrand versus tall ball-joints and every combination in between.

OK I finnaly broke down and bought something. I just ordered a wilwood front and rear kit with 4 piston calipers, 12.19" rotors, and all the hardware needed. got the kit from frank @ gp super store, who was a huge help, and plesant to work with. Guess I am just gonna go with a stock style spindle.

What about the rest of a conversion kit for a first generation camaro when using ATS AFX spindles. Will the rest if the kit work with c5/6 brakes or do you need components specific to AFX spindles. Fir example the SSBC kit for the ATS spindles..

The ATS spindle will use any C5 Corvette brake kits or kits designed for C5 Corvettes.
