I bought my first fuel injection system, and I'm trying to learn all the ins and outs of injection as quickly as possible. It is the Arizona Speed TPI setup for big block chevys. It came with Bosch "red top" 30 lb injectors. I have used the injector sizing formula for injector size. It says I need a 48-50 lb injector. This leads me to two questions. What brand/s is/are compatible with the the Bosch red tops (p/n F1SE-E5A)? a.k.a., what will fit in the manifold and plug in to the harness the same? Also, what would be a fair price for the set of 8 used Bosch injectors? Thanks for the input.

They are Bosch EV-1 type injectors, and any other EV-1 type that is hi-impedance will plug n play. It is an industry standard. You can get them up to 72# from RC Engineering (Delphi brand - used by MSD, Holley and a lot of OEM's).

Ballpark for the used 30's would be $250-330, but there are some cheap injectors out there that tend to depress the market - you just need to find someone that appreciates the better quality.

What are your goals powerwise? I always recommend going large on the injectors to give yourself some growing room. I run the 72's and they idle fine and have layed down 632rwhp in my current setup which is currently going through an upgrade.

I have a 509 with 10.3:1 compression, Brodix Race Rites, and a hydraulic roller cam. I expect it to make 600-650hp. Thanks for the info.

Every calculator I have seen for injector sizing multiplies the number of cylinders times the duty cycle, except for the calculator in the directions with my Arizona Speed TPI kit. Which calculator should I use? Do you think that engine combo will make 600 hp? I would think the extra cubic inch and compression, bigger cam, and better flowing heads would add 100 hp to the zz502.

The formula I have always used is:

(Peak HP*BSFC)/# of cylinders

Or in this case:

(650*.5)/8=40.625lb/hr

I like the Bosch EV1 style 42lb/hr green top injectors. They're more than enough for your application and will idle very well. Just my two cents.... sounds like it's a great piece.

I would always go at least 25% larger than what the calculations say, just to give yourself some headroom. There's a lot of people out there selling injectors that turned out too small, and very few selling ones that were too big to be tuned. I'm running 72# ones on a Vortech-blown 383 and they idle great. And I have plenty of room to grow into my new 434, with a lot more boost.

The RC Eng 72's are hi-z (hi impedance) as well. I'd probably go with 60's if I were you.

Ok. I know my horsepower isn't going up. I don't have any boost, nos, etc. planned for the car. I am building the car to sell. If 60s are what it takes, 60s are what I'll go for. If I need 60s to possibly support more power in the future, that doesn't apply to me. Thanks for all the info guys.
