Hope they friggen lose and CARB is disbanded.

Imagine if every state decided to set their own standards for car makers what a cluster trying to meet everyones requirements. Bad enough almost every country already has their own.

Cal should only have the power to regulate the emissions put out by factories in their states, not dictate what the automakers can build.

Yeah, that would be a nightmare. 50 state legal would be impossible.

Guess who pays for this little stint? As a hint, let's just say California taxpayers will pay twice as much as the rest of us. But everyone is paying.

How do their residents put up with this arrogant cr@p? Will it take everyone being forced to drive Prius' before they do anything about it?

CA also wants to have it's own CAFE standards.

what? Is there a link to a news story Im not seeing?

03-10-2008, 06:14 PM
yeah really, does anyone have a link? I could care less about Cali. No offense to anyone in the state but your government sucks. Don't get me started on them banning home schooling.

Tony - they're talking about the decision by the EPA not to grant CA a waiver to regulate CO2 emissions from automobiles, and the resulting suit - see - http://gov.ca.gov/press-release/8400/ for more info.

No offense guys, but if you've ever seen the air in L.A. on a bad day, you'd see the need for CARB. It's a moot point for the PT crowd though, pre-1976 cars can do more or less anything they want.

And no, it wouldn't be that much of a nightmare if states could do their own thing, as there would be a group of states that would follow the federal guidelines, and another group of states that would follow CA's guidelines, no big deal.

And they didn't ban home schooling, they just said that people who want to home-school their kids have to have the education and credentials to do so. We've got enough under-educated idiots in this state already, we don't need overprotective and underqualified parents churning out more.

If you all are going to get mad about California, how about getting pissed off at the thousands of greedy Californians who bought houses they couldn't afford and turned our national economy into what may be the next Great Depression?

Or how about getting pissed off at the thousands of Californians who can't afford to live here anymore and are now moving out of state and bringing their Californian expectations with them? Hope you all like the weird combination of more government, more crime, and more overpriced restaurants serving bad food, coming soon to a neighborhood near you.

Don't blame me, I'm staying here.

WHOA, WHOA!! They banned home schooling!??!?

WOW bigvegan, you're statements on homeschooling alone show what an arse you are. If you ever read any stats on homeschoolers and what a success homeschooling has been, compared to the public school system, you wouldn't of made those rediculous comments. Sorry for the personal attack (not really) but ignorant comments such as the ones you made really piss me off!!!

Prolly 70% of public schooling sucks! Who is going to take better care/intrest in your kid? You or some underpaid and micromanaged teacher. I would hope that you say that you would! If not, you don't need to have kids! LOL!
Now we just need to be able to get tax credits (or something) to offset the cost of home/private schools!

OK folks. Enough political talk. If you want to debate the merits of home schooling go find another website for that.

The emissions discussion can continue, but enough of the personal attacks.

You are assuming that things will continue to run the way they currently are (some states use Fed requirements, others follow Cali), but can you show me where this is set in stone? There is nothing to stop each state from creating their own requirements. I say if a state wants representation on the Federal Board it should be allowed, but no way they should be dictating special guidelines. In the end it is just costing everyone more money and making things more complicated, and now on top of all that they want to add lawsuits. The Federal Govt. needs to step in a clearly state who has control over setting emission requirements for vehicles.

CARB also needs to stop picking on cars, and start focusing more on businesses if they want to cut down smog. For example, why do they offer smog credits for companies that sponser old car crushing?

Not only that, but the standards they are setting do not come for free. "Will of the people" we shall see if "the people" are going to be so willing once they find out what cars they can buy and how much more they will cost to meet those requirements. Everyone acts like these changes will be cost free, just set the standards to whatever you like. They won't be. We need standards that are of a reasonable timetable and uniform. Otherwise it's going to hit our economy that much harder.

And didn't their governor once drive a Hummer?:wedgie:

Oh how I would love to move back to San Diego OR Ventura but CARB is the number........three reason I won't ever live in Cali again.
The number one reason shall remain untold.
I like the state, I really do but the majority of the people, the cost of living, crowding, Santa Ana's, politics, laws, rules, taxes, the DMV, the un-insured Mexican drivers, my mother in-law, my sister in-law, the pollution, the gas prices, SF, crime, bums (except one's that actually put on a performance for your buck), very little hunting game, drivers, stuck up bi*ch*s............
I like the Padre's and Bolts though. In'n'Out too.

Oh yeah, CARB sucks!

Still does. What nobody talks about is that it's a hybrid. Now all the rest of the politicians in Sacramento, their SUV's aren't, as far as I know.

What can we do ? I HATE CA legislation and all their laws... It is the same thing for two things... Cars and guns... heaven forbid you are a law abiding citizen who wants an AR-15... nope - sorry... can't have one.

Cars ? Oh well you cant run this part because CARB has not approved it... what a crock of ****.

If anyone has any ideas on what to do voice them out - - -

Was his Hummer a hybrid before or after he ran for Governor? Serious question.

He had a couple of hybrids prior to being the governor. GM built him a H20 hummer. He also has a bio diesel hummer

Good one.

Seriously though, I heard a news bite a month back when this was 'news' and the guy from CARB sounded like an arrogant arse talking about the EPA interfering with the sanctity of States' rights yada yada yada. Hmmmmm, last I checked the Fed gov't granted those rights to the states.

What a crock of crap.

agreed, I would like to know how much carbon emissions are created from the manufacturing/building process etc....of these hybrid and cleaner burning cars, at what point does it create more carbon emissions from building new cars as opposed to repairing old cars?

.....just a thought
