View Full Version : Am I okay grinding on my Baer caliper?

I can't get my front flex lines clocked the way they need to be because there is a 1/8" raised area that runs the length of the Baer caliper. I'll get pics up tomorrow, but the extra 1/8" only allows 90 degree rotation of the flex line, and I want to grind the caliper flat so I can spin the banjo bolt 180 degrees. I have an email into Baer, but no response so far.
Do you think I am okay grinding this area flat? I'd hate to find out the hard way that I broke through to something...

Gotta love Google image search! Here's a pic (not mine, but the same) which shows the area I'm running into: http://www.projecttransam.com/Projects/BaerInstall/BrakeCaliperBack.jpg
I want to grind the area to the right of the flex line flush with the rest of the back of the caliper. Thoughts?

If you have to grind you're not to likley to hit fluid unless you get silly...a 90 fitting would be sweet... Im not a huge fan of Banjo's make sure you saftey wire the bolts

Personally, I would find a different solution than grinding on my brand new Baer caliper. Even if that means buying different brake hoses.

How about utilizing straight AN fitting's ??

Thanks everyone for the replies. I would like to find an alternative to grinding, but I'm not real familiar with AN fittings. Or brake fittings in general. I've browsed Summit, but I can't seem to locate exactly what I need. I'm picturing either some kind of extension, which would move the hose out about 1/2" to clear the raised area, or a 90-degree fitting which would change the angle that the banjo adapter mounts.
If I could eliminate the banjo bolt that some are critical of, that would be great too.
