I'd say a new body style mustang as well. Here's my reasoning...of course just my own personal opinion. The new mustangs are way more fun than the old ones. More HP and better dynamics. The older Cobras might have a lot of HP, but my 98 and 02 GT's pushed like crazy through the corners. Never drove a Cobra, but the extra weight of the supercharger, intercooler and such up front isn't going to help that out any. Driven quite a few miles in a GTO....they feel like a really big heavy car. They are okay, but there's way too much weight there. Personally not a big fan of the looks either.

Here's a pic of my brother's 05

I would definitely go with the 05-08 Mustang GT also.

I think the GTO's look like butt,....the camaros (had one) are great drivetrains but lacking in looks to me,.......the Cobras were fast, nice interior 'feel' but I find their looks lacking also,....AND they've had too many issues with their rear-end and tranny.

So for me, the newer version mustangs have good platform, great looks, and it can be easily updated/upgraded visually if you wanted that.

A Jones edition Mustang...looks like a old Trans Am car and it is 302 cid (Boss 302)!

02 Camaro. Throw a camshaft in with bolt ons and get around 430 rwhp.

For all out performance I'd say the Camaro. Handle great and make good horsepower cheap... but they suck as a daily driver. No room inside, no trunk space, hard to see out of, etc.

GTO... looks like a damn Cavalier.

Mustang, definately go with the new body style.

Mustang has the looks hands down, but they feel and drive like an old pickup truck.

Camaros are too squeaky and creaky because of the hatchback, if you have T tops it is worse.

If you have ever spent some time in a GTO, it is the best of those mentioned and helps me get past the generic looks. They have a solid, european feel, combined with the LS power makes it a winner in my book.

Chevy guy from day one but......I'd go with the brand new mustang gt with as much black as Ford can handle.

Chevy guy here as well. I LOVE Camaros, I own a '99 HO SS!! The power is there, but I agree with these other guys with it being a daily driver. Not really comfy.
The newer Mustangs look bad-ass and you make them look even better with aftermarket kits. It all depends on what you are looking for I guess.
GOOD LUCK!!!:headbang:

A buddy of mine has an 05 Mustang GT and will getting a Servini (Sp?) body and performance kit. They are going to pick it up in Mississippi and take it to San Diego and return it with serialized number, new supercharger and body kit for something like 14K.
It's alot of stuff but I think it is a little much for that level of upgrade. My sis has an 05 GT too. They are good cars but it seems the 05's had some front end, gauge cluster, and tranny issues. Both of their cars have had similar warranty work done to both. Get an 06.

i would have to chose the GTO also, haveing driven one, they are really nice real comfortable not to loud in side and they get up and go pretty well also, to me they seem a little more practical then the camaros ..

well for me it would depends...if you have some money to put into it, i would go with the gto, you would already have the ls2 and then stick a twin turbo setup on it and your set...my friend has a gto, while he hasnt touched the engine, he has done some suspension work and it drives pretty nicely, but if I could I would wait till the new camaros and just get a z28

bang for the buck, i'd go with the 4th gens. They've been getting real cheap lately and don't need too many mods to be fast. But it just depends on your tastes. I say find a 2002 WS6 or Camaro specialty model.

Camaro: Good motor and drivetrain, easy to mod, Looks Ok
GTO: LS2 awesome, boring looks, nice driver, HEAVY car
03-04 Mustang: Had an 03 GT for a year, didn't do it for me, really cheap feeling interior. Haven't driven an 05-08, but I hear they are much more solid feeling and the styling is right on IMHO.

DD: GTO

Play toy: Camaro SS or T/A

camaro
because the GTO looks like a neon, the mustangs i've driven (including the new style) felt weak and they're Found On the Roadside Dead, and it's REALLY easy to upgrade. but i'd rather have the new camaro.:smoke:

Everybody is so hard on the GTO because it just didn't look enough like a GTO in the wave of retro going on here but we need to remember it was designed for a different continent.

And with the LS2, all you need is the L92/L76 set up for a grand from GM, a cam swap and you're making 550 hp!

Dig up some driving glove magazines from a few years ago when all they had to compare was Mustangs and GTOs and the GTO won every single test. 6.0, 6 speed, and IRS??? Come on!

And when you get it and don't love the looks, just hire one of us designers to help you with some subtle paint, 1 or 2" drop and a wheel upgrade and it will look as good as it goes!

I would go with the 4th gen camaro. They are comfortable if you aren't too big for the car, and they get great gas mileage for what they are. They are easy to upgrade and work on.

if it were me, 02 WS6.

they also sell Holden body kits for the GTO's, so they can look more like the concept car.

I'm fortunate enough to have owned 3 out of 4 you listed. Here are my thoughts on the ones I've had:

02 Camaro SS - plenty of aftermarket, LS1 powered, decent brakes, can be bought very cheap, easy to modify. I daily drove a 98 Formula for 4 years, it didn't bother me as a DD.

06 GTO - much more refined than the Camaro, and the seats/interior are among the best GM ever produced. That is even comparing the seats to our '08 Caddy CTS and the '07 Escalade and the '05 C6 I've owned. The GTO is very comfortable as a DD, it has no blind spots, and feels more nimble in traffic than a Camaro. The handling is also pretty nice from the factory, not much body roll in curves.

06 Mustang GT - it looks decent, has comfortable seats (except for the stupid head rests which protrude). That is where the fun ends however. The brakes suck, the car rides too soft and mushy, and handles like crap (a lot of roll, a lot of front to back floating during braking or acceleration). The 4.6L engine also is a turd, and has no torque or throttle response compared to the LS1 engines. It could also use a 6th gear, that 5-spd would cause the rpm's to sing on the interstate. I'd still consider the new Mustang GT a chick car after owning one. The Mustang also drank more fuel than the F-body or GTO, which sucks considering it is a weak 4.6L "modern OHC" design.

The GTO has been a lot more enjoyable to drive, it is a better built car and is comfortable for long trips (did the Power Tour in ours). With the added twin-turbos it now hauls ass too.
