View Full Version : Car Shop at Home or Lease?
I have some land to use at home and I am seriously considering building or putting a shop there..my uncle has a successful car repair thing at his place and I feel I can do the same..very low overhead and having your own business seems very enticing..I already have a custumer base built up from doing many side jobs so I would like to hear yalls feedback on this matter..pros and cons..

Starting a legitimate business is very costly, and depending on how in depth you are going to go into the cars the equipment can really add up. I would not discourage you. I have thought about it myself and once I started adding up all the costs I realized I didn't ave the means to get it started.

I would think having one at home would be convienent but risky this day and age. To many lawsuit happy people around.
Keeping it seperate would be wiser. Maybe break that land away and lease it to your own business. Make it an LLP or something, it would need to be legit to protect yourself.
But overall, I'd do it given I had the chance.
One thing to consider is whenever you have a car shop you will eventually end up with broke down cars parked around for weeks and months for various reasons. Make sure you can legally have them and also that you don't mind looking at them on your property everyday.

Make sure the area is zoned for the intended use as well or else code enforcement will have a field day every chance they get.
Also the seperation of property is a MUST for liability purposes.

Agreed with everyone/thing above.
Do it legitimately so things don't come back to nip you in the butt.
What do yall mean separation of property?I plan on having like a mobile mechanic setup with the truck and if I need to take a car home to fix it I will do it in the shop..
