rust under lead

Has any one else had rust under the quarter to roof lead.

I really dont want to cut this out. Can I just treat this and cover it up with whatever I use to fill the seam in.

I also have more rust (yaah) around the rear window and trunk seal. The majority of the metal seams strong. Has anyone tried to braze holes in sheetmetal. I would hate to have rust come back. Any help would be great. Thanks guys.

Oh ya, replace the metal in the trunk gasket area, the section by the hinge support is particularly suseptable also.

I was planning on welding the entire seam and filling the gap with a high quality bare metal filler. I have not chosen an exact product. I would have to talk to some body shops about which filler to use.

What do you mean about epoxy new metal in the window channel. I wanted to braze the holes closed. My car has been blasted to bare metal and the metal around the holes seems strong. I just didnt want to try and mug weld the holes and have it blow through.

I had my entire rear window seat pretty much rusted out. What i did is wire wheel it down it bare metal. Then i used Gas Tank Repair! Wal-mart markets it as Quick Steel. It is hard in 5 minutes and can be drilled and tapped within an hour. I used two tubes (less than $10) and grinded it all down and painted it. Seemed to work extremely well. It's not finished just painted to protect it from further rust until im ready to finished the body and install the window.

that sounds a lot like J-b weld. Was it a 2 part almost epoxy like product.

JB weld is like an Epoxy paste. This product is actually a 2 part but is more like a playdough consistency which makes it extremely easy to work with. It hardens so hard you can drill and tap it even! And it's at full strength in 1 hour. Sets up in 5 minutes. Its a light gray "tube" of playdough with a black playdough center. You tear off the ammount you need and knead it all together until it's all the same color. I made flat little 1/8" thick pancakes and flopped them over the hole. I can actually drill into this stuff and thread the clips for the trim into it. It's most commonly known as gas tank repair putty or quick steel at walmart i believe. You just couldnt believe how hard this stuff gets within ten minutes. Even those huge holes i filled in are rock solid with this stuff.
