I've been lurking for a while but thought I'd say Hi! I purchased a 67 Mustang S code GT 390 Fastback Automatic a few years ago and am finally progressing on a tribute to the one-off Shelby GT 500 Super Snake. Total Control front and rear Suspension, Wilwood brakes and an Aluminium Shelby block 427 with a Tremec TKO 600 5sp. Here's what I started with... Very solid body California car (supposedly once owned by Rock Hudson though I have nothing to prove it at this point)

I had Danbury Competition engines build the engine. Nothing too extravagant but good reliable and torquey engine at 500 hp.

Welcome, from another Ford guy (we need more of them here, too many GM people). :poke:

Welcome! Great project you've got there. Some of us are disguised as GM guys, I've got a 66 Stang project that I need to get back to. I'm living in Oxford now just Southeast of Danbury.

I plan on painting it Nightmist Blue with a wide white Super snake stripe and with the boarder stripes. Heres some of the picks. The car had tons of undercoating underneath and in the trunk.

More... We needed to put a patch in the drivers floor, repair one torque box and remove a small bit of rust on the left quarter.

Hi. I jst purchased a 68 Fastback that I am tearing down at the moment. I was looking at your pictures and wondering what you used to get the undercoating off?

SUPERSTITIOUS
03-03-2008, 02:21 PM
A couple small issues with the body. In the battery tray area theres a slight wrinkle, right quarter and I'm replacing the drivers door due to a good shot to the front edge and a bunch of pin hole sized holes

SUPERSTITIOUS
03-03-2008, 02:27 PM
To remove the undercoating, heatlamps and a scraper

I also have aquestion for the computer type guys here.... P-T has a limit on the attachments I can put on so I had to delete some of my previous pictures to add these... What gives??? how can I add more with out having to delete the prior ones???

By the way thanks everyone for the kind words and warm welcome!

I am in awe of the work I see being performed on this board, by the many do-it-yourselfers. Im in the car business but I myself am not doing the restoration. That credit goes out to East End Restorations on L I. N.Y. which is basicly a high end Shelby restorer (a friend of my brothers who also has a 68 GT 390 Fastback restored by him). E.E.R. welcomed the change of pace to do the Resto-mod. I actually purchased this car through him with the plan to do the work. So far I'm very pleased with how the cars comming along.

Wildthing, My car was sent out and media blasted

The car looks great. I can't get over how amazingly clean the metal looks and how :spank2: the entire car is down to metal at the start. Nice base to start with.

I had the same rust through problem on the sheetmetal under the battery tray as well (yours is bent as well). Just busted the spot welds this weekend and am preparing to install the new panel.

Any idea what media it was blasted with?

Spies Hecker, one of my friends looked up the color in his R+N Diamont paint database which has tons of old color formulas, sprayed me a sample and had Spies Hecker come up with a Nissan Maxima 89-91 vintage paint formula to match.

Hey Gary,

When you load the pictures on to Photobucket, there are 4 files listed under each picture. Go to the last one listed as, "IMG code". Click on it with your right mouse button and select "copy". Then go to your "pro-touring" post and click your right mouse button again where you want to insert the picture and click on "paste".

Now your pictures will be full size.

Try it out. You will like it a lot better with the larger picture posts. I know we will!! :)

By the way... awesome build!! :1st: The '67-'68 Shelby Mustangs (and clones) are one of my all time favorite cars...

Here's a video of my college buddy's (J. Bittle of JBA Racing in San Diego, Ca.) first love, he has owned the car for 31 years... It's a REAL 1967 Shelby GT500 with a "Tunnel-Port" 427 in it... (Actually, it now has a Shelby 482 cubic inch Aluminum short block in it... but it still has the Tunnel-Port heads on it.)
