u joint straps

here is a question. I was at my local speeed shop picking up a pinion yoke for my 10 bolt. I asked if they had straps for teh 1350 u joint. they said they had big thick ones from moroso as opposed to the stock metal straps. my quesion sis are they nessesary? has a stock on ever broken ? if so, under what conditions? there is also a $25 price difference between teh straps and teh moroso ones. I will need 2 sets , one for the front and one for the rear. thoughts?

I've never had a stock strap break, but then I've never had enough traction to test it. However, last summer I broke my TKO 500 but the Denny's driveshaft and Moroso u-joint girdles held as if nothing happened. Cheap insurance in my opinion.
