Bob's a reliable source and I'm sure Jason's plugged into the industry pretty well too.

I never cared for the guy, but I am sad to hear about his death and my heart goes out to the Coddington family.

Like him or not, he was a polarizing figure and his loss will be felt.

RIP Mr. Coddington.

I always hate to hear about death at untimely ages, especially in the hotrod arena. There's been quite a few legends gone this past year, some were the people that started it all, namely Wally Parks and Robert Peterson.

He's been in the ICU for quite some time, very sad. Don't let the TV drama fool you on what he is like. A real stand up, nice guy. Seriously.

We all should be grateful for what he did for this industry.

it is sad. It's sad that the majority of people will remember him for that awful "American Hotrod" show, and the fake drama and deadlines he "forced" on his crew.

He was a pioneer in the industry. His cars are some of the finest ever built.

So sad. As others have said, most know him as a not so nice person from the show, but anyone you talk to that actually met him said he was a very nice guy (except maybe chip foose)

I hope the business is taken care of, I'd hate to see that goof son ruin it.

we should all recongnize the talent that he's helped foster.

i can only judge him by his attitude on his show, and it wasn't a good impression. but a lot of "important" people did work for him and learn a lot. plus his original designs really changed the industry. you do have to respect him and his work.
my condolences to his family, friends and those who worked with him.

I think it is safe to say that he influenced most of us weather we knew it or not. He was starting to change the industry by creating outstanding rods when I was trying to figuring out how to sharpen my pencil in 5th grade.

I have it on good authority that he recently was suffering from an infection resulting from an undiagnosed colon problem. By the time they'd figured out what was going on, the infection had spread to his liver and kidneys, and became unrecoverable.

Get yourselves checked out guys. Don't put it off.

I had the honor of meeting and talking to Boyd at a couple of the Goodguys shows. He was always a class act whenever i seen him. Aways willing to talk cars and sign autographs for people. I followed his cars since I was a teenager and always thought he was one of the greats. Not at all like he appearde to be on t.v. A very sad day for the hot rod world. My sincere condolences to his family. Rest In Peace Boyd.

I do not think most understand the influence he actually had on the Hot Rod World. He was also one of the starters of the driving high end cars as all his cars were built to drive in an era of static displays.

As for the show, I watched every episode and never saw him raise his voice once or treat anyone with disrespect? Actually it seamed the reverse as he was treated poorly by his workers.

Had the pleasure of meeting him about 15 years ago and he was 1st class to me . RIP Boyd.

Way too young to go. I'm sorry for his family's loss.

Steve, that was a great write up by Johnny, but not to get off subject, what is that little part about the laundering about? Is that where they would register cars out of state in order to get a vin and title for the vehicle?

Hate to hear bad news. Maybe the moderators here should start a sticky with picks of Boyd and his projects like a slideshow type thing. I am sure some of you have met and talked with Boyd. I've been to La Habra shop a couples of times, of course I think TV was an exageration of the man's caracter for entertainement purpose.
like most of us, Boyd was an inspiration.
This man made me buy tons of car related magazines so I could dream about building a car.
Sadly the poeple who inspired us are leaving way too soon.
Another billet master was Lil John Buttera.
Anybody remembers the articles about his son Novette?
probably one of the first protouring Nova with a Vette suspension captured in a magazine.
Anyway Mr Coddington surely left his mark on us forever.
RIP sir. and thank you

And like I always say,

I met Boyd at a local car show couple of years ago really a nice guy.I asked him if he new of anybody that could do a drawing for me for my pro touring chevyII. He pulled out his phone and gave me the phone number of his own artist Todd Emmons. Todd has since then finished my drawing but this would not have done with out Boyds help. I can truly say that he was as nice a guy as I have ever met. He was not the ass that some people have said he was he was just like you and me. Thanks Boyd.

To top that off, Lil' John Buttera died on Sunday. That's like Keith Richards and Mick Jagger dying the same week. There would not have been one without the other and they left huge impressions on this industry.
