Im fixing up a car for a friend of mine, its a 1968 Camaro with all new panels. Hood, roof, 1/4;s,doors, fenders, trunk, rear panel basically all new, whats the averadge price for a paint job.Can it be done for $6000.Its still needs panel alignment and all the common issues with a paint job.It also has a new floor the whole underside has been painted Boyd Red but the guy didnt do a good job,the owner wants it redone. We want the car primered first so no rust can start.Anybody out there that can chime in.Here are some pics.

600 or 6000? You could get by on 600 in just paint supplies if you buy lower quality stuff. My first car that I painted I bought PPG Omni paint, its a two stage and I think I may have come in around that price for the paint, thinner, catylist and clear. I used an off brand polyester primer and skipped sealer cause that stuff is expensive. I think I was around 800 buying sand paper and masking paper and tape. If its 6000 I think if you found (i dont wanna sound racist) an imigrant like a ukranian or armenian guy that paints cars you could get it for that price. One of my shop helpers is a first generation american and his dad paints cars, Ive seen his work and it is totally respectable and he said hed paint my car it for 5k plus materials. Those guys have the talent but being that they dont speak much english they end up not getting paid as much but a paint gun is a paint gun IMO and if they arent cutting corners paint sprays the same way regardless of what language you speak. Now Im not saying have a guy that hacks together salvage cars with bondo and sells them with doctored titles but you may be able to fing a respectable painter like that and save yourself a bundle on the labor end of things. If you buy spies hecker or glasurit those paint systems are quite a bit more than ppg or the like. I learned all about paint from an old room mate and he told me to never chinse out on the materials cause the better ones flow better and end up with a better finish than the cheaper stuff. He likened it to some cars make a decent driver look good and a good driver look great, same with paint. A decent painter will be able to spray a better finish with good paint than bad paint and a good painter will be able to spray a panel that lays flat with almost nothing more than a good buff. I dont paint for a living though so anything I said is based off of my personal results and living with an awesome painter that taught me almost everything I know about body work so I guess you gotta take it for what its worth. Look around you may also be able to make friends with a painter that needs to trade skilled labor with you. I do custom electrical as my specialty and alot of guys are more than willing to trade my labor on their car for their labor on mine. Something to think about...

Im gonna guess 6000 from looking at the car and yeah it can be done for 6,000 but for the way the car is looking which looks to be a nice quality ride you might be a little over that mark to get a paint job nice enough to go along with that car but your in the ballpark

just a decent paint job can run you that much... You can definitely find a local shop to do it for that though

Yes it can be done. All depends on what your expecting for the $6K...where are you located?

It can be, I also said that I used pretty cheap supplies. PPG omni is what I bought and its not that pricey compared to their better lines of products. Clear was the most expensive. Hell a gallon of primer costed me like 70 bucks and was enough to get 2 coats down but it was just some no name stuff that got the job done. I wouldnt say that anything cant be done, hell you can get a clear coated paint job from maaco for a few grand, so to come in here saying it cant be done is a lie. Can a show car be painted for 6k at a normal shop rate? probably not but thats not what was asked. He asked if you could get paint on all sides and align the panels for 6 large. I think you can but it all depends on what you want the final product to be.
