I will be starting a automatic to t-5 trans swap in my 70 small block swinger within the month, hopefully.I am still in the proccess of gathering parts.I have a new z spec motorsport t-5,quicktime bell, lightened steel flywheel and clutch pedal assy so far.I will be using a tilton 75 series master w/ a tilton 600 series hyd. t/o brng.I will have to modify the tortion bar x member and trans crossmember.I have enough parts to start mocking and fabbing.I will try and take pics and document the swap the best I can.Wish me luck.

thanx

If memory serves the T5 is rated in the mid-300 ft/lb torque range...but was put in a bunch of cars with considerably more power before the T56 and other high-torque o/d transmissions became available.

It's going behind .060 over 360 ,9.8:1,ported x heads w/2.05 intakes and a racer brown [email protected],525 lift, rpm intake and bg claw 750 dbl pump.Pretty mild by todays stds.,works pretty well in my 3250lb dart.
I think the z spec t-5 is rated at 330 lbft w/a continuous load maybe 400 peak short burst load.I know it is not the ideal tranny in comparison to the bigger tremecs, but its all I can afford right now.I'm hoping it will standup to my small block under normal use.I dont really do alot of drag racing ,mostly autocrossing and some occasional track days.I think if I treat it right it will last a while. The quicktime bellhousing I'm using will accept the tko's if I need to upgrade later .I like the fact that the t-5 is very light and I like the gear ratios(this is a 2.95 1st gear). From what I hear it is a very smooth shifting trans. With some wheeling and dealing(already sold my 727)I should be able to put the whole thing together for about 16-$1700 clutch to drive shaft.Trying to get everything done in time to attend the run through the hills event.
Pics and parts list coming soon

thanx justin

Yeah, I'm thinking the same way for use behind a close to stock 5.3 GM which will be close to or right at max torque rating. I won't drag race it and you can fill a trunk with t5s for the price of a used t56.
