I've been thinking about diesels because where I work they are always throwing away used cooking oil that could be turned into biodiesel. was wondering if anyone knows a diesel engine that could be had cheap, has decent power and the parts are also cheap?

I would look for a late 70's/early 80's 300D Mercedes. They are the million mile cars, and they are a dime a dozen.

If you want "decent" power you will want something with a turbo.
I think your only real choice is a VW, because I don't think you'll find MB parts cheap.

Vdub parts aint cheap either. MB i would feel is a better option they do run forever... there are also plenty of trucks with diesel motors...

the vw tdi isn't far behind in miles and longevity. and parts are a lot easier to find. not that you'll need them. :) i've had mine for almost 4 years and it's been great. other than standard maintnence (oil changes and t-belt) it's cost me $60.

i know they exist, but i don't think i've seen one this side of the pond. you guys get all the good stuff. i'm still waiting for vw to offer the v6 tdi and 4 motion over here.

Volvo, BMW, Nissan all had diesels in the US, but they are rare. I don't think parts for any of them are going to be cheap.

what about a volvoAlready have a volvo diesel station wagon. The motor will barely make that car go, never mind a full size car. The parts have been very expensive for it. $40 for a o-ring! This diesel I have has lost compression so you can just imagine what that would cost to fix. I was thinking about truck engines.

you might be able to find a ford from the late 80's early 90's before they went to the powerstroke.
or you can look for the olds diesel:seizure: :Alchy:
