This is all in referance to the rear swaybar

Was thinking about a sway bar for the nova. Ive seen both chassis and axle mounted swaybars but what is the better of the 2. Id think the axle mounted would add unsprung weight.
Packaging a splined bar chassis mounted would not be a problem.

Also on swaybars where is the optimal mounting position to the axle in a chassis mounted set up? Too far out Id think it would be over sensitive and to far in not enough.

Any help would be great... Im just looking for something to build. :Alchy:

Yes, Chassis mounted means less unsprung weight.
Typically the arms are short on a second gen Camaro type mounting system. This makes the bar swing forward when the car is up on a lift, and it can hit the diff cover if you have the TA type aluminum version. You can see that if the bar arms are only 6" long, it can cause problems. You probably want the bar wide enough to line up with the inner U bolts, or just inboard of there. If the bar is mounted to the axle housing, I'd line up with the inboard side of the frame rails. I think you need to mount to the most solid area available, which is the frame rail. Hotchkis likes to mount theirs to the rear seat pan area but it's not all that rigid.

As always Mr Pozzi great answer.

79T can you splain the mounting of your bar? looks to have the standard sway mount then a round urethane mounting to body.
Also what grade steel is the bar.
