I’m selling my Dodge 1500 Quad cab due to gas prices & the fact that I don’t need a truck.

I want to replace it with something that gets at least 20mpg or better & I want something cool.

Well, thanks to TonyL’s super cool Corvair I’d like to know if it would a bad idea to consider buying a Corvair for a daily driver to get back & forth to work (Approx 60mi roundtrip).

What kind of mpg are they capable of getting?

TonyL, is your Corvair a daily driver?
& would you recommend a Corvair for a daily driver?

Thanks,
~Chris

Thanks for the compliments!

Yes it is a daily driven car. It gets 20 mpg also. Mind you, I have headers, so I have NO HEAT. I use a heater bought from NAPA that plugs into my cigarette lighter. You don't *need* to run headers on a corvair, and the factory heater works very well. Aside from that, the corvair is a great daily driver.

Not to mention the endless "what the heck is that?" comments. That and people calling it a Corsair, or a Camaro. Watching people react to checking the oil at the gas station is fun every time. They make a sound all their own, and go surprisingly quick too. I tell you, these cars are needlessly overlooked simply because they lack a V8. I've given loads of rides to people who would never give a corvair a second look because of that. But after that ride, all of them have said "I've got to get me one of these!"

Thanks TonyL, You guys are making me really want one.
I found one in great shape for $4K about 4hrs way from me.
If I get rid of my truck in time to buy it (before he sells it) I'll send you some pics for some advice.

Thanks for posting that Tony...I'll try and get some other pics posted. There on a dead computer I'm not using but I'll see what I can do.

The first advice I can give is have the motor rebuilt by a Corvair guy, no matter what anyone says... there are some small tips and tricks only Corvair motor guys know... or more correctly- care about. Other then that great handling car, easy to work on, easy to gets parts for.I rebuild my motor but in a Corvair guys shop with him showing me every step along the way.

I've always been into them, fell in love with the late model body lines years ago. My biggest 'problem' if you can call it that, was the need for speed. I have a 140 with all the go fast parts its super fun and sporty but just kinda lacks the 'real' muscle of a muscle car. Toying with the idea of tossing a LS2 in the back, that would be sick!!!
