Well after some searching I found that summit sells an adapter to change the original speedometer cable from clip on (71 Camaro) to screw on....but my real question is.... is there any other options? The little adapter is 50 bucks and Im not sure if the old cable still works.
this is on a 71 with a m20 4 speed.
Thanks,
Dennis

It sounds like your needing to go from the stock speedo cable to say maybe an aftermarket gauge which uses a screw in cable.
I started to go this route on my Cutlass, same type setup. I called Autometer and they suggested going with an aftermarket screw-in cable. Lokar maybe. I bet the cable will be more than the $50 for the adapter.
I decided to go with the elec speedo rather than the mech one.
The adapter *may* be the cheapest route.

Go to your local parts store and get a cable for a 71 c-10 truck. it works great and is super cheap.
