Wsup
I really dont think this is a hard process. I just need confirmation. My guess is I would to have a long enough shifter cable to fit the trans. and get some kind of connector??
Also I bought a factory floor console brand new. What ****fter do you guys reccomend? the original horseshoe or a BM or hurst??
Im quite sure you guys know. this is (I assuming) pretty easy...Thats why you're the classic Car JEDIs:worship:
Let me know
Thanks

If you go with the original horseshoe, you can use original-style brackets and cable. Connect one end to one end, connect the other end to the other end. Add the harness extension, plug in the neutral safety switch, lights if you're interested, and remove the handle from the steering wheel if you want.
If you go with an aftermarket shifter, the steps are likely still the same but the cable and/or the harness may differ.

I vote for the Horseshoe. And yeah, you can disconnect the factory column linkage, replace with a cable and just keep the column as is. Then install a different column later. In the meantime you'll end up with a secret ignition kill switch that's hiding in plain sight. Rotate the column shifter cup to the right to engage the neutral safety switch. Rotate it left to the park position to start.

Ok so the horse shoe. Yeah i was thinking the same. They have a more vintage look to them. Any one got any tips on where to find one decently priced. Im assuming they cost around 130 or 150ish, which is not bad but its nothing wrong with saving a buck or two.
for the next project..... its always a next project lol!
Thanks!!

Ok fellas i got the horse shoe shifter plus cable. Now please make it dummy proof for me being the fact of this is my third project I am a newbie at this. Should I get a mechanic or tackle it myself?
Other than the shifter and cable what parts and tools will I need?
thanks

To do it properly, you'll need the bracket that attaches to the tranny for the cable and the wiring harness extension that connects the neutral safety switch to the horseshoe instead of the column.

Ok thanks Derek.
Do you recommend any specific manufacturer or can I just go get the bracket/wiring harness from a local auto zone? Is it pretty simple?
Thanks!!!

They're both things you'd get from a resto parts house - NPD, Ausley's, Ground Up, etc.

Bracket is either NPD's C-4047-5B or 5A (p76 of their online catalog). Cable is on the same page.
On p 75 they've got a "shift cable installation kit" that you might also find useful.
The wiring you're likely missing is the "Console Harness Extension" on their page 88, C-2482-105C.
I'm sure other folks carry these things too, NPD seemed easiest to look at... possibly even some of our sponsors?
