Hi Guys,
I am swapping an alternator from a 1990 Iroc into my camaro. It has a plug with three wires and the labels sflp. How do I get this thing to run? I know that the main large (10ga.) wire from the starter goes in the main post, but I am unsure what to do with the three wires that a coming out of the plug on the bottom.
Thanks,
Chris

Go to American Autowire (site sponsor) and get their alternator conversion kit. Their kit includes the pieces to convert your old alt setup to the new type. Easy and painless!

Ok loop the S wire to the battery terminal and the F terminal goes to 12 V key on, just fold the P wire back and tape it up or remove it.
I actually like to use 14guage fuse link wire on the S terminal, use about 4 to 6 inches then crimp and solder all terminals and shrink tube the connections. There is now real magic to wiring this.
This alt is probably a CSI 133 so I would also upgrade to a *guage charge wire with say a 12 or 14 guage fuse link. use about 4 to 6 inches in this line too.
The best part of these alts are the fact they have digital regulators so they only trun on what they need.
If this is going int oa factory internal regulated car the wiring S&F match up, if its an older car with a regulator just put a jumper inside the regualtor from the key on wire to one of the alt wires. the other just tape back into the harness.
Sometimes if you hook the F wire to a wrong point it will back feed and keep car running, oh and the F wire can be ran through an idiot light simply run 12 V to the light and other wire to F terminal, if alt fails the regulator grounds the F terminal and lights the light.
good Luck and ask if your confused.
I had a 120 am version on my BBC 70 Monte Carlo. It lasted through 3 cars and 13 yrs and about 250k miles. Oh and any of the GM pulleys work on the newer alts.
