ive seen plenty of lsx engines and plenty of sbc/bbc pro touring cars. but the question is which help the value more? i want to have 600 at least at the wheels but its more of a question of which engine to do it with. everyone loves the sound of a bbc and lots love the look of a lsx engine in their bay. but which will actually help a pro touring car go for the most cash? not wanting to sell mine after completion but would hate to know i spend 10k on one or the other and then time to sell the car i lose money by doing so. what is the market these days, what catches someones eye more a 502 bbc or a ls2 "for instance" ?

If you were talking about a Pro Street ride the Big Block would rule. Given a Pro Touring build I'd have to think that any knowledgeable buyer would prefer the lighter weight and inherently better weight balance of the LSx.

The LSX is growing on me when they are built up and dressed nicely. *Not straight out of a corvette* Bad penny and the engine ATS is installing are really killer. I guess I still like the blend of new and old. I had to have a big block, but with new technology. Roller cam, aluminum heads..etc. For handling there is no doubt the LSX takes weight off the nose but you can lighten a big block substantially. Aluminum heads, intake, water pump, accesories, radiator, battery out back..etc. I just like the look of a properly dressed big block still. If I planned to daily drive then it would be LSX and fuel injection. You could go aluminum big block with fuel injection as well. I think you can go with either as long is it's properly built and dressed. What does Razor have in it???? Big block baby.:woot: Sorry LSX guys.:thankyou:

To catch the eye of the high-rollers you need an exotic engine. Nicely dressed LSX or EFI or forced induction or aluminum BBC.

I don't think you can just through all the LSX engines together.
An LS7 will certainly bring a lot more value then a stock pulled from a junkyard LS1.

True about the pecking order among the LSX motors. I would bet that a junkyard ls1 would go further than a 396 BBC.

i mean im not picking one out of a junkyard and leaving it like that lol. i will be swapping the heads, intake, fuel system, adding some dress up products to it, it wont look like you pulled it out of a wrecked vette. actually ive been thinking about a lq4 now.

I would think if you bothered with the expense of a big block you would probably have it bored and stoked the common 496, 502, 540 and 572 comes to mind.

i was just debating this since i already have a 454 laying around, probably going with a lsx though. but hey i could always bore/stroke the 454 and put it in my xtreme s10 lol...were buying a obd1 truck and swapping my bed, xtreme kit, front end and wheels to that one then selling the other as a stock s10. and the purpose of this all is so i can legally run a v8 in a s10 here in nc without having to get it to pass obd2 emissions "lsx"

Your question is directed at VALUES, and while you did not say it since desirability is a important part of value, it must be included also. So before you guys hang me in the streets, my statements are only referring to value!
Keep in mind that over here at Pro Touring, your going to get a LSX slanted response. Also keep in mind while this is the biggest Pro Touring forum, 11,000 members, this a TINY piece of the Hot Rod world. Having done plenty of both LSX, Small block and Big Block. And I also have the chance to take these various rides to the Saturday night cruise in, and shows. The LSX is a engineering marvel, but still, to the general public, nothing stops them in their tracks like a Big Cube big block! Make it all aluminum and as they start to walk away and catch the all aluminum out of the corner of their eye, they come back for more. Add injection, or a blower, and you will have them standing around your car for a long time. if you want to bore the masses, (Please don't kill me, I am refereeing to the masses) just throw a stock LS1 in a Camaro and watch them glance and keep moving. Put a blower on it, and now you stop them in their tracks. Blowers draw attention on anything.
I only refer to the masses because appealing to the masses
