I noticed This most recently on a product I was very interested in a few years ago but finely got the funds to buy now.
The product was comperably priced to all other models they offered but the 67-69 camaro part is now almost $50 more than all others. And $100 more for the racing version than other racing models. Not so a few years ago. Ive noticed this on many many things.
Im now stuck paying the igher prices because my Nova shares many parts with the gen 1 Camaro. Ticks me off.
All offenders will remain nameless.

My thoughts exactly.
Be thankful there are parts you can buy, instead of having to make everything yourself. I would be happy to pay JUST retail + $50 for some of these Charger parts I need......
Find me an airgrabber hood for a 71 Charger for less than $1000 and I will pay YOU the stupid tax.

I wish you would have posted this about 3 weeks ago. I could have gotten you the hood and the entire car for less than 1k.

When your car is as much a Corvette as it is a Camaro ,do you get taxed double?
Yes the price has gone up but so has the demand so it isn't anything new to the world I live in.

Yes, but typically when demand goes up on manufactured goods, they become cheaper due to cheaper costs/ commodities of scale.

Actually the prices for most parts have gone up in the last few years because fuel and metrials costs have gone up substancially. Then you add the extra costs shipping companies throw on for the companies to get their materials...and then to get products to the distributors. Then you add the extra tax for the Nova getting more popular. :)

Since we started building our pedal covers in 2005 the price for aluminum has increased 40-45%. Then you add the cost of shipping, as mentioned above, to get the materials to you and then your bottom line becomes smaller. I don't plan on raising prices, I just want to get the product out there.
We all want to make money in this business, but I won't be getting rich anytime soon.:lmao:

I honestly am willing to pay the "tax"...the way I see it is, the more money these companies bring in, the more money there is for the development of other items. I know only a small amount of their profit is reinvested into their company for R&D, but when you have a multi million dollar company investing a just a tiny percent of their profits, your gonna get some sweet stuff after a while.

If the demand is greater but the supply doesn't keep up the prices will indeed go up. As I see it, a lot of the companies in the pro touring segment aren't big multi-million dollar companies and do things on a smaller scale. This means smaller production runs which sometimes might not be able to keep up with increased demands.

go look at bel air chrome/stainless parts. and trunks...i had the option to fix up our other bel air when i was younger, in 02 i was 14 and we had talked about restoring the other bel air i was stupid and i chose a 3000gt over the bel air, now the bel air all covered in rust is still worth more than the 3000gt after i redid everything on it lmao. but the prices since then have went up like crazy. 800 for a grill and trim? why? they can be made for so little and sold for so much, same with bumpers..price a bumper for your camaro then for a bel air, you would feel sorry for me lol. doors also, the cheapest im going to get my door shells is around 1100 AFTER a 25% buddy discount. parts do go up, everything is going up in value. but look at it the way i am, as the parts went up the cars values went up alot too;) thats the good thing about this all. tell someone your going to sell a non matching numbers camaro with 18" wheels and air ride 10 years ago they would ask where you got your drugs from cuz you must be on something good

It's the late model performace 'tax' that interests me. It seems everything for late models is much pricier then its old school counterparts. Often by a large margin.

Seems like you're missing the point of the OP's post. As i read it, he's not complaining that prices have gone up in general. He's saying that the same style part, in the camaro version, costs more than, say, the chevelle version even though it's almost the same part.

The fuel portion of that is hokus poke-us to me.. Take milk for example. (Or any consumer good) Milk went up almost .40 cents in the past year. Yes gas went up also but when you add up the added fuel cost it is way under the added cost to the product multiplied by units shipped they are making more profit on the product that they loose in added fuel costs.
Same for shipping-- UPS packs them trucks full and have routes that are plotted to minimize mileage and fuel usage. So they use $10 more to fill the truck but charge $1 more to ship X the 50 packages they just made $40 and blamed it on added fuel costs. Added costs are not purportionate to the added charges.
Sorry for the rant.
