View Full Version : New Product - Clayton Machine Works Valve Covers

Larry Callahan

Clayton Machine Works (http://www.claytonmachine.com/) introduces their new innovative valve covers which feature integrated breather and PCV assemblies, eliminating the “stuck-on” appearance of conventional breathers. Another key innovation is the removable center section which allows the user to customize them to their personal preference. Functionally similar to conventional valve covers, in that the main “body” is one closed piece, so there are no leaking or sealing issues with the two upper pieces.

These tall style, die cast aluminum valve covers fit a small block Chevy and have an overall height of 4”.

The suggested retail price is around $250.00 which of course includes the breather and PCV assemblies.
Available this spring.

We'll be updating our website next week, which will have more information on our valve covers. Regarding the centerbolt setup, we're working on that as well, but not sure yet about the timeframe on the big block. Our "official debut" of our valve covers will be at the Hot Rod & Restoration trade show in Indy at the end of this month.

We're located in Alabama. The Hot Rod & Restoration trade show is an "industry only", meaning that you need to be a manufacturer, dealer, shop, etc. to get in. Of course if you know someone who is, they could give you a pass to get in I would imagine.

Thanks for the compliment. As a designer, I tend to think outside the box or at least look at things a little differently..We'll be adding more products in addition to what's already on our website, so stay tuned.

The finish on these is a satin medium gray. The nice thing about it, is that you can finish the center section anyway you'd like since it's removable.

Clay, are those inserts "removable". I love these and want a set for my BBC...so you will need to keep me posted on BBC release (need tall covers).

But I want to pain the insert the same colour as the car....can I remove it and paint it ?

Yes, the center section is removable so you can paint it or finish it any way you choose.

When will they be available? Price?

Any way to hook up a -10 AN cleanly to them for a breather tank. I think they would look a lot better on my engine than what I have now.

I'm sure you could adapt an AN fitting to them and pull it off cleanly. They'll be available this spring and will run around $250 complete with integrated breather and PCV assemblies.

Sign me up for a pair. [email protected]

I don't visit this site daily or even weekly. I will be ready to order when you are. The ones I have now are powdercoated and I dont' think with the headers that close the powdercoat will last very long.

Do you have any other pictures of them to share?

We'll be offering them with a polished finish, with the possibility of having a chromed version as well. With the polished version, the "user customized" options are endless. We debuted them at the Hot Rod and Restoration Show in Indy this past weekend and the response was huge. On display, we had one set that was painted in a "titanium" color with a carbon fiber insert...looked really killer. We'll have more pictures uploaded soon.

So to answer your question, the final finish is up to the user, as there are numerous possibilties.

The centerbolt version will be ready about the same time as the perimeter bolt version, which will be late spring, early summer. We're working on a matching air cleaner as well.

As these are prototypes, the baffle is one of the things we're working out. It may be as simple as a press-in grommet style.

We've had a few setbacks on our valve covers, but if everything goes as planned, we'll have these ready to ship (hopefully) in about 2 months. We had to make a few changes, which increased the tooling costs.

I apologize to everyone that has been patientlly waiting. We also have plans for a matching air cleaner.

I don't blame you for giving up...This project has been very frustrating. When I bagan the initial advertising everything seemed to be good to go. As time and development progressed, the tooling cost (these are die cast) became much more than initially planned. If things go well, then it's possible we'll have these available this spring. I know EVERYONE has been waiting on these, and I appologize for that. Sometimes things just don't work out as I would like them to.

N2TRUX,

As much as I hate to say it, I dont think the SBC valve covers will ever make it. They were just too costly to produce via die casting. I do have some ideas however on what might be done to reduce the cost.
