I'm building a rear engine car and am using a C5 drive train. Does anyone know a vendor or someone who machines a bell housing to bolt to the trans and motor? Like a traditional setup. Will just a normal bellhousing work? Space is an issue somewhat.

Are you building a rear engine or a mid engine car? Auto or manual trans?

If you're using a C5 transaxle, it's gotta be a mid-engine deal. What's the chassis?

It's a mid engine. I put rear out of habit. It's going into a 65 Corvair.

Have you considered using a Porsche transaxle? That will allow you to shorten the drivetrain by over 20", since the Porsche unit has the differential in front of the transmission. There are some kits out there to allow one to bolt that together.

^^^^^^What John said!
The C5 doesn't have a transaxle, really. It is a transmission bolted to a diff housing. Very long. I think if you were to put and engine in front of it you would have to sit on the hood.
Give Jeff a call and he can hook you up with the setup that he used in his Ultima.

Porsche is out of the question b/c of budget. I'd like to, but it's just not in the picture.
The LSX can be done and I'm the 3rd person I've read about to attempt it. One should be on the road this spring. He had pics posted on here in the old gallery.
You just use a standard rear wheel drive bellhousing. I just spoke with RPM Transmissions about this exact thing this morning. I am building a track car using this setup. I first read about on this forum; it was going in a Corvair.
I just got home from a road trip to pick up my tranny. I should be picking up my engine in the next week or so and then bolting everything together.
If you look on RPM Transmissions website, you will see that they sell complete units ready to bolt on. They even have a 6L80 version.
Do you have any pics of your project?
