I've used my car with both a turbo 400 and I've got this other transmission now, not sure what it is but it bolts to a olds 307 and has a smaller driveshaft. Anyway my question is both these transmissions hesitate about a second to 1/2 a second before they downshift when I open the throttle all the way. Maybe that's normal but late model cars do that instantly. Is there a way I can improve this?

To ID your pan go to http://www.nastyz28.com/chevy-transmission-identification.php. That website should help you out. On to your main problem. Installing a shift improver kit(shift kit) should help make your shifts and downshifts a little quicker. If this a transmission with a lot of miles on it it may need rebuilt...dont jump to this conclusion though. Install a Transgo shift kit and see how you like it and if that doesnt help your problem then there may be other issues. Also if you decide to do this yourself(not recommended if you dont have adequate experience with transmissions), check and see if there is alot of debris in the bottom of the pan. If there is a shift kit may help for a while but you wont have a reliable fix for your problem and your transmission may be on its way out. Hope this helps! Steven-Bowler Transmission
