If you're driving around L.A., driving Mulholland from the 405 over into Hollywood is pretty much a must-do. Lots of stoplights / houses / traffic / whatnot, so not much good for the high-speed runs like Steve McQueen used to do (despite what you'll read from the ****heads on mulhollandraceway.org), but it's still a fun drive along the ridgetop that separates Los Angeles and Hollywood from the San Fernando Valley with terrific views day or night, and if you map it out ahead of time, you can end up at a small park on Canyon Lake with with the best view of the Hollywood Sign.
If you're a road trip purist, you can take a picture of the intersection of Olympic Blvd. and Lincoln Blvd., the termination point of the historic Route 66 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Route_66 (but do this on the way to the Santa Monica Pier or Venice Beach, which are a little more scenic.)
June 14-15th, there's a Solo2/Autocross at California Speedway. (Tentatively scheduled, check http://www.solo2.com/calendar.asp for details.) Always fun in a rental car.
And of course there's always the PCH.
In terms of non-vehicular fun, there's always:
Grauman's Chinese Theatre - The old Art Deco Theatre where the stars put their handprints and footprints in the cement out front. It's an awesome place to see a movie as well, as the theatre is beautiful.
The Sunset Strip - Every bit as cheesy as it's supposed to be. Hit the Rainbow Bar and Grill if you're out one evening. It's a bar/grill/pizza joint where all the old band members from the '80s hair metal / metal bands occasionally hang out (and their now 40-50 something groupies, still in leopard print spandex).
The Getty Center is worth a look if you like art museums.
The Petersen Automotive Museum is worth a look if you like cars. (Of course you do, it's totally worth a look - http://www.petersen.org/) Best of all, it's within walking distance of the famous La Brea Tar Pits and Little Ethiopia, so you can check out prehistoric fossils, tar, beautiful cars and have a kick-ass Ethiopian lunch.
I can go on, let me know if you need more suggestions.

so here is the whats happening in CA in the middle of june... In San Diego I would be sure to check out the Gas Lamp district. Really cool great place to eat and very relaxed. Also, if you are near, stop by Temecula (on the way up the 15) and do some wine tastings at one of the wineries. There are a bunch of excellent ones, check out Churon or South Coast. -James

There's a lot of history in Central California and if you're into hiking and nature stuff, definitely stop by the Monterey Peninsula and take in Big Sur and Pt. Lobos. Also, the Pinnacles National Monument Park south of Salinas is very cool for rock formations.
You mentioned the fault line and you can actually "see" the San Andreas fault from San Juan Bautista (about 45 minutes south of San Jose and 30 minutes from Monterey). Jardines de San Juan is a fabulous place to have lunch or dinner as well.
Death Valley is also scenic but would take a day or so to see it all. Very spread out and the scenic quality depends on what time of year you visit. The cool thing is you can get to Highway 395 (connects So. Cal. to the Sierras) and stop by Mammoth Lakes. Devil's Postpile is a National Monument and is a must-see. Plus, Mammoth is gorgeous no matter what time of year you visit. I think that the Postpile isn't open during winter months ...
PM me if you get over to Monterey and we'll get a few Pro-Tourers together.
Oh yes ... Tijuana??? I've never been but heard you shouldn't go see the donkey show ...

And if you're taking your PT car, it might be best to rent something for any travel south of the border.

The Wally Parks NHRA Museum is a must-see for any gearhead. It's in Pomona next to the dragstrip, about 60 miles east of LA.

A drive through Big Sur is pretty mind boggling. And take the advice above and go to In-and-Out Burger (did I forget to say Animal Style with a lemonade?).

bigvegan and NOVA have some good info!
If you want to hit the beach, try Manhattan Beach and Hermosa. 2 of my favorite places to hang out during the summer. You should also go to Venice Beach to see all the freaks and just to say you have been there. Santa Monica/3rd Street Promenade is also a good place to waste some time.

Cruise the Crest June 22. If you're in SoCal you can drive (or ride with someone driving) a great mountain road, as well as meet up with some of us on the board: https://www.pro-touring.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43764

Yep, add in the Petersen Museum in LA since it's not that far away.

trip was great. met a few members and their rides.
steve - I was at the coffee and dough nuts at 7:45 only I couldn't find it. so after i drop all over the area, i got there again around 9:30 and missed it. I spoke to teh fellow in teh white navigator and mentioned to him that instead of having 50 signs at teh driveway, try putting some on the main drag. if I saw a sign I would have made it. bummer. the LA roaster show and Pismo beach shows were a nice rebound.
