Yeah, something had to go terribly wrong. I did the one at Darlington and at the speeds they pace you with around the track, it is very hard for the car to get away from you. I went a little over 133 at Darlington and always felt in control (watch out for Turn 2 though). Daytona speeds should be higher but still within the realm of most people's abilities. Not too mention that they put markers on the track to provide a "line" to take. Most NASCAR drivers loathe testing there (especially non-drafting) and have commented that trained monkeys could drive around Daytona by themselves becasue it is pedal to the floor the whole track.

I ran at Daytona a while back. Awsome experience. Ran 144 and change. Was weird getting used to the amount of left turn they had dialed in. You had to conciously remember to turn a little back to the right coming out of the turns. But after the first two laps I got used to it and my speeds climbed int ot the 140's.

This might have caught him off guard and he over corrected. Or could have been a health thing. Eitherway it's a sad story. For the number ofpeople who do drive at Petty you rarely hear if this sort of thing happening.

Sometimes you are the windshield, sometimes you are the bug.....

sounds like he died doing something he enjoyed. I only hope I can be so lucky.

If I had to pick a way to die, having a heart attack while racing a car would be near the top of my list. Could be a lot worse ways to go.

RIP.
