I was told by someone that used to race alot that a leaf spring with ladder bar set up is a good set up for the street. The way it was explained to me was that you use the leaf springs and shocks as the suspension, but the ladder bars kick in for tractionl. Will be using one of these so there is no bind between the two: http://www.competitionengineering.com/catalog/CategoryDisplay.asp?CatCode=10047

What are people's honest opinion on these set ups? I was originally going to get a pre fabricated 4 bar or something similar, then he talked me out of it. I know have all the parts needed to do this set up, so if I change again...will be out money. Is this a good set up for a street car?

For drag racing, ladder bars work good, and you definitely need to use a slider kit so things don't bind. As a general rule of thumb, ladder bars are rough riding on the street. They will work, but it is going to be more of a hot rod ride.

Just buy a GOOD leaf spring and be done with it. You don't need any thing else.

as mentioned above you must use floaters or it will bind, drag race set up, and yes just get good leaf springs

Good leafs helped me. Hotchkis leafs are stiffer on the front half like a lift bar would do but with out the bind .
