Ok, so I've sold a car and its going overseas. The buyer is arranging for transportation but I'd love to hear from anyone who's done this about how the title and ownership is resolved.
what I need to do for the DMV ? What happens with the title?
What else should I be aware of in the process? I've already got the money for the car so that's not a worry but I'm not sure how else the process works.
Any input or advice would be great to hear.
thanks

I sold a 68 Caddy convertible to the Netherlands last year and it was very painless transaction. The buyer arranged shipping etc, basically all I had to do was sign the title over and give them the keys.
I am not sure where you are and how the titles function there; but in CA you submit the release of interest form to DMV (keep a copy for your records) the rest is up to the new buyer.

Like Jeremie wrote. Picked up my last car in Ca a couple of years ago, filled out & signed the DMV form and the title. That's it.

ok, thanks for the replies. I'm in CA too.
So it basically just runs like a typical transaction and I get the buyer's details as I would normally even though he is from out of state?

Although it's some time ago, as far as I remember a customs form will be sent to the DMV stating the particular vehicle has been exported.

I paid $2600,- for a 40' container from LA to Rotterdam or Antwerps. It would hold 4 cars and LOTS of parts. On the other side you have to deal with the unloading costs, import document costs and (almost goes w/o saying) taxes.

When i bought the 66 impala in MN i drove it to NY and dropped it off at the shipping company, they required a notatized copy of the title and a pair of signatures.. it was delivered to my doorstep in copenhagen and iot cost somthing like 2000 USD all included... i have seen ads here for a transport from the states to denmark at about 1600 USD, they take care of everything...
