Ok guys and gals , let see your aircleaners! I wana do a aircleaner like Dale Jr's car that pulls cold air from the cowl. DSE has some really detailed pics on ther website. Just wondering if anybody else has done or built a unit like this? Let see them.

Here's a page from the Lefthander catalog with a fiberglass or carbon airbox that's kinda cool...

don't the big circles punched into that air cleaner (Dale's) kind of negate the whole cold air thing?

that is common thought.

67 Z28s had a similar option available. I do no think they are repopped.

That is exactly what I said when I first saw it. Maybe it is lined with some clear acrylic or something. If not, why bother.

It's not functional to pull in cool air from the cowl area, but is forced to use the hotter air from the engine bay.

i guess you need to specify what function you want it to perform... ;)

It's very nice, but the shape of the DSE car’s assembly is more pleasant to the eye (at least mine). I guess because the one is a nice smooth curve versus a more abrupt flare out. Might just be me.

For sure the DSE looks much better, maybe just copy it but make it funtional.

DSE did the one on Trush's Camaro when they were still in MI.

This air cleaner looks really cool but it obviously is just for looks. I vaguely remember the guys at Campbell Auto Restoration made a reproduction of an original Camaro cowl induction air cleaner. I may be way off base. Maybe it was a real one they had laying around.

$925. :yikes: This is why I don't 'restore' cars, lol.

Yeah, that is the one I love. That air cleaner could make me do a 4bbl style efi intake on my LS in my 67.

I'm in the process of installing the Spectre Performance system this week and once it's on, it should work well. While this system looks "involved," it actually is pretty easy to remove and reinstall if you have to work in the engine bay.

I'll post pics when it's done plus any modifications that were required. There are a couple if you have a brake booster and OEM master cylinder. Don't have much room for anything else as my car still sports the flat, non-cowl, hood.

Cheers,

Funny you mentioned Spectre, I just got my G8 back from them this week. They used my car for mock up on a Cold Air intake kit.

With just a simple intake and cone style filter they were able to get 11hp and 9lb-ft out of the car on the Dyno. Which isn't too bad for a bolt on part.

Best part is, once they get their production piece back from manufacturing they get to test fit the final product on my car again, and then I get to take it home.

Free horsepower... ftw!

Also, if you are ever in Ontario... take a tour of their shop. They've got some NICE toys in the back. I got a LOT of ideas for my Camaro from their Camaro...

lol.... I think it's the Beastie Boys getting to your head again is all.

I'd post pics of my air cleaner setup, but it's not on the car at the moment. I guess I could take pics of it anyway though. But that means I gotta find the cable for my camera to be able to upload them. Too much work at the moment...

One of my all time favorite cars just so happens to have one of my all time favorite air cleaners. The Hurricayne by Rad Rides. Sorry for lack of pics, on my way out the door but thought it was noteworthy..... Go to www.radrides.com (http://www.radrides.com) or google

That is awesome news and now I really can't wait to drive my Camaro ...

Talked with Mike Morrow at Del Mar Good Guys last month. They're a great group and I saw their second gen. Nice car and lots of neat parts on it. I got some ideas as well. I'll definitely ask for a tour when I'm down in the So. Cal. area next time.
