The car was unveiled in the Planet Color booth at SEMA about halfway through the show. It has some really nice workmanship and some very nice ideas even if some of the design highlights are not everyone's taste. Nice car.

Love that exhaust exit.

Ha yep that exhaust and lower valances around the car are pretty badass. I'm personally not a huge fan of the hood scoop design and how the stripe curves down in the front since it looks a little too similar to the Judge stripes.

But overall that car screams genuine Pro-Touring/competition design

WOW! That is one big shopping cart handle! I mean spoiler! I could do without the giant 'vette hood too.
But a very nice car other than that!

Not a fan of the wing but a great looking car none the less. They said the engine in it currently is the same one that one Dale Sr. won the Daytona 500 in. That's kinda cool and unbelievable at the same time.

I got a few pics of the RCR car at SEMA. Was one of my favorites of the show besides Penny and the Twist Machine.

If we had not seen the wing on a lot of crappy cars it would not get that reaction, guilt by association...

I think the car is really nice , and you ca toss the hood and wing and make it perfect.

i know the car is cool and all but 575k??? wow is there something else I am missing about it? not to offend anybody but in complete honesty is just seems high considering some of the other cars are fetching so much less this year

575K

Let's review what you can buy for that price:
GT3 RS AND a CGT
II Much AND a '08 F430 Spider
360 CS AND GT3 RS AND a Lambo Merci
Vacation House almost anywhere in the US

Oh, and did I mention they totally missed with the stripe & hood. It works against the body lines and looks like it was build in 1992. Fail.

Do you think it went for that kind of money because of Dale Sr.'s Daytona 500 motor was in it and you get another engine with it?

cad
01-20-2008, 08:42 AM
Absolutely---
I was unimpressed with the fact that they were selling it for PURE profit, AND you had celebrities up
there trying to cheer on the crowd, such as Tony S and Goldberg.
I would have been more impressed if at least some of that money went to charity.
If it did and I missed the mention that some did go to charity, then my apologies are due.
Making a profit off of a person that has passed is uncouth, IMO.
I know "everyone" does it, but I am unappreciative of efforts such as that.

I really don't like the hood & wing on that car, and I'm not too fond of the exhaust either. In my opinion the exhaust would have looked alot better if they used a fuel cell in the trunk, or a custom tank so it doesn't hang under the tank. It looks like an afterthought to me.

cad, every penny went or charity. No commissions were paid to the house on this car or the GT500KR that Shelby had up there moments before. Same thing with Stewart's car and I'm betting the ZR1. That's why they had the celebrities hyping the car and why it was held open for bidding for so long.

Colin, you got the car with a historical motor in it. A second motor was also included. Both built for RCR. You got a tour of the place that builds the RCR motors from start to finish. You got behind the scenes pit passes for some NASCAR race as well. I believe there was maybe one ro two other things included in that price. It wasn't just the car. It was also for charity too. All that combined is what caused the price to go up. I was just happy to see it beat the GT500KR. Take that Carrol

The stripe follows the body lines almost exactly. Both top and bottom edges. Only until it gets to the very front does the bottom line not curve the way the fender wheel opening does. the top line follows the fender ridge exactly. How does that work against the body lines? What are you seeing that I'm not?

Thanks Trey,
Knowing that it went purely to charity makes me understand the price, it is good to see people willing to pay more knowing it is going towards a good cause. I did not know about the historical motor or the other bonus'. Glad to see they could bring in so much money for charity!

I have watched the B-J show every year it's been televised, and it is usually a little more evident. It was not as clear that it was going to charity. What was the charity?

There is nothing in the description of the car alluding to the charity like the 2008 GT500 Mustang that went for 550k.
Mustang:

Camaro:
http://www.barrett-jackson.com/application/search/carlist_Details.aspx?&In_LotNumber=1303

"""The televised event will host the sale of the first 2008 Shelby GT-500 KR (Lot #1300), the first 2008 Dodge Challenger (Lot #1331) and the first 2009 Chevy Corvette ZR-1 (Lot #1316). All three cars will be sold for charity in the same fashion as in years past where such first issue cars have gotten well over half a million dollars. We anticipate this year, that at least one of these beasts could break the million dollar barrier.

Other significant cars to be rolled across the block include “The Intimidator,” a Richard Childress Racing (RCR) 1969 Series 3 Camaro limited edition vehicle (Lot #1303) that honors the accomplishments of NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Sr. and his bond with RCR."""

Set me straight....

Just because it follows the body line doesn't mean it accents it. It visiably breaks up the car at the wrong places and the strip is far too wide.

Well, I could have sworn that they specifically said it was going to charity and was not for profit. I saw two cars go for charity last night and only the GT500KR was the one listed for charity that I saw. Maybe you're right and I'm losing my mind. I can't think of the charity at this point either. Which one went to United Way? That was mentioned incorrectly during bidding on the GT500KR and the camaro came up just after that. You may be correct after all. I can't answer any specifics now.

I guess we will just have to disagree on this Ryan cause to me it's great. My response was to you saying it broke up the body lines and I wasn't seeing what body lines you were referring to. I'm not a 69 camaro person so I thought maybe I was missing something.

I'm not super fond of the way it finishes on the rear 1/4, but for the most part it's ok.

I think the wing is supposed to be a car of tomorrow wing. Michael and I got "the tour" of the project at SEMA. From a workmanship stand point, the car is done very nice and has killer black paint so deep you can swim in it. The car was built in a very short period of time, like 100 days or so. The guys that built it came over to EmptyNest and talked to Michael and I for a long time exchanging professional compliments and courtesy's, nice guys. A lot of our conversation was about the strain of 100 day builds as we were in the same boat with EmptyNest.

They were hoping for 1 million for it. I am sure that is why they worked it so long on the block.

As for the charity thing, I just watched it again and it never said it was for charity, but they did say it was not for Childress profit, so..................

No worries :)

I guess my taste may not be 'main stream'. That's what makes this place great though, everyone has their own style and we can all get along.

No worries. I really think B-J does a fair share of charity work as it is. So - kudos to the mgmt team there.

If I am not mistaken it was said the engine came out of the car Dale raced at Daytona in 2000.....I need to replay it when I get home. It was also stated that out of the 50 being built it's the only one that will be an Intimidator and DEI signed on for that. I am thinking that the DEI's Dale Earnhardt foundation is were a chunk of the money goes.

OK that's what I heard. I knew I had heard that for one of those cars and I guess that's why I thought it was for charity. My foul.

You're right Ryan. I'm certainly not here to quail anyone's preference. Different build styles make the car shows interesting and the world go round.

Okay, I sure hate to be nit-picky but I am pretty sure that none of the sale went to charity. I was there and the statement Steve Davis made to Richard Childress was along the lines of - People might think that this is just another way for RCR to make more profit, but its not. Its more about the your love of cars and your dear friend Dale Earnhardt.- So there was never any allusions to the fact that there was any charity involvement. I think they were hyping it for big money to show what kind of pull Dale Sr still has after his untimely passing. Plus the whole time they were auctioning it, they never mentioned anything about a charity. This series is a for profit venture and this car was part of the profits. I am 99% sure on this, however I might be wrong.
