I hope everyone on the (northern) East coast is ready for the storm we're getting tomorrow. This looks like it will be one to remember. When I watched the news at 11, they were saying 18-24" of snow, possibly up to 30" on Long Island and up north. I remember back in '96 when we had 20" of snow, but 30" would be unreal. They're saying it'll be snowing 2-3" per hour from 4PM-Midnight, and it will be "white out" conditions--basically a wall of snow. It's supposed to snow from 12 noon on Saturday to early Sunday afternoon.
I prepped my truck today in preperation for the storm, but I've only got 14.5" of ground clearance at the bottom of my front valance. I guess I won't be going very far :lmao:. I'm really not looking forward to shoveling 2 feet of snow. I envy you guys on the West coast, lol.
To everyone on the east coast, stay warm and stay safe!

Good Luck Ralph! We're forecasted to get slightly less here in Northeastern Jersey, like 12-20" by the time it's all done. Time to put my wife's Jeep Liberty in 4WD; I won't be taking my car out any time soon.
Stay safe everyone!

Sorry Ralph, but I am getting ready to do some climbing today not shoveling. Oh ya, we may have record head today around 75. Time for some shorts I guess.

We're getting hit pretty hard too Ralph (Chicago). We are expecting another 10 to 14 inches. Just another january in Chicago....lol . But if you look at it this way it's a great time to go work on the car ( if it's in walking distance). good luck with the snow and be safe.

Doesn't that just suck for you Ralph? Have fun shoveling. Call it a good workout. All I have here is a little fog issue. oh well, what can you do?

Well, it just started snowing about 20 minutes ago. It's not coming down too bad yet. Now they're saying we're likely to get around 20" or so. Who knows, though.
Steve, hang in there!
Brian, you're a lucky, lucky man. The temp with windchill last night was -6*, and we set the record low for our area. 3*.
Flynlo, I saw you guys were getting hit pretty hard as well. I can't work on my car unfortunately due to an unheated garage and a faulty sandblaster (not like I could sandblast in this weather anyways :p).
Allen, yup it does suck. You're right, what can ya do? Nothing. I'll take my truck out and have some fun before it gets too bad. Ya gotta make the best of it.
Protouring70, I'll try to get some pics, but I'm not sure if I have any batteries for my digi cam. I'll check later and see. If not, hopefully someone else can get some pics.
Stay warm east coasters.

Wow, I feel for some of you guys. We have about six new inches of snow since last night. That is considered to be a LOT here in one day! We seem to be in some kind of sweet spot here, where the most severe weather always seem to bypass us. The lake effect from Erie runs out of gas before it gets this far, and anything coming up from the Gulf or Eastern seaboard in the south is just a remnant.
What I saw when I opened the front door:

There's about 10 inches of snow on the ground, and I just got done shoveling it after 2 hours. By the time I worked my way back to where I had started shoveling, there was already another 2-3" on the ground. Did I mention I hate shoveling?
Todd, not bad on the 6 inches. It looked like that in the first 4 hours once it started snowing.
justanova, :squint: If I drove around with a T-shirt and the windows down, I'd probably be dead of hypothermia (sp) within 2 hours. Take an extra lap around the block for me.
Bill, it's all white here as well, my pics probably wouldn't have visibility of more than 5 feet. I drove around before to survey the roads, and I couldn't see very well.
Brian, I call foul! I was sweating also, but the difference was I was sweating in single digit temperatures while shoveling snow.

:lmao: We really should get a snow blower, but we have a paving stone driveway, so if one isn't careful when using a snowblower, it can get scratched up really bad. My driveway is about 65x20.

I agree. It's nice in the warm months, but terrible for working on cars for fear of staining it, or in this case, for using a snow blower. I'll get back out there in about an hour or so and try to clear it out again. :banghead:

Hey guys, i am here in North NJ, snow sucks bad. I got a brand new 8hp 30" wide snow blower, works like a champ except for one problem, they put the exaust on the very top of the motor, so guess what, I am now inside typeing with one hand because you guessed it, put my hand right on it. Can you say bacon anyone. So any ideas for fabricating a heat shield for it?????
Bill Howell

Jay,
There is a reason they put that little red "DANGER, do not touch" sign on the exhaust. :lmao:
Sorry, but you reminded me about what I did this summer (twice- I am a slow learner) with the lawnmower. Their exhaust gets hot too!
BTW- I guess we are on the tail end of the storm. We have a dusting of snow with more coming overnight. Be safe everyone, even those getting sunburned.

there is no sign on this one, hmmmm I might have to call up sears and complain, damn my hand hurts bad, The exaust is really in a bad spot, i need to make some kind of shield for it.

Just finished plowing a little while ago. About 14", not bad for our area. I don't mind the snow very much, but some double digit temps wold be nice. It was -10 last night when I had to go out. We don't get that cold very often.
Brian that is a cool shot. I wish I could be climbing now.

I just shoveled another 5" or so off of the driveway. I'm really dreading what I'm going to see tomorrow when I wake up. I took my truck out for a few minutes after I was done shoveling, and wow, it's bad out there. No one is on the road, and with good reason. The plow drifts on the side of the road are about 2.5-3ft high already.

I'm dug out now. Not too bad here: 8" or so.
My neighbor used a snow blower and I used a shovel yesterday. Today, the wind blew all the snow back onto his driveway, while mine stayed clear. Sometimes life evens things out.

Hey airrj1,
Thanks for the picture of your snowplow! I just knew there was a reason I needed a 4wheeler and now my wife will not have an objection :fingersx: . Well, then again we had 1/4 inch here this morning. It never hurts the be prepared though right. :naughty:

I'm done shoveling now too. I'm sipping on a glass of my father-in-law's homemade wine to warm up. I think we got about 12" total. Some spots are deeper because of the drifts. My driveway isn't too big, about 15x30 or so. It's long enough to park my Monte SS and have enough room to fit my wife's Jeep Liberty behind it. I also did my walkways around to the back of the house, and cleared out the drift in front of the dryer vent. Gotta keep that open, or we'd have a flood in the basement.
I would have taken pics, but compared to the blizzard two years ago, this was nothing. :)
Hope the rest of you are all done now too, and warming up!

We're all shoveled out now as well. I'm not sure how much we got, but I'm going to guess 14" or so. I guess the news over-estimated. Whatever it was, it was enough to have me walking with my back killing me.

Well, all those sound like great stories. I was shoveling from 6:00 pm last night till about 5:00 pm today. We did nineteen houses and all of them "2ice". Extra $$ for the Camaro. Tell you what, I am ready to retire from that job. We took turns driving the truck. Still I am tired as hell. Boy that word sounds great about now...hell. Keep those warm pics coming.
